The Harry James Group is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer – Product Development. The role will be part of the Hardware Engineering team, responsible for the development of the company's integrated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) products. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.
Preferred location for this position is Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You could also work hybrid within the Canadian eastern time zone. 25% travel is expected.
Responsibilities:
Design, configure and validate control panels for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), including component selection such as breakers, fuses, and relays for DC and AC circuits, define system architecture, site layout, functional safety analyses, auxiliary load estimation, HVAC sizing, and battery sizing/configuration.
Design electrical schematic, single line diagram, field wiring diagram in Auto-Cad Electrical or EPLAN and BOM in Auto-Cad Vault/Fusion for energy storage systems following UL508A and IEC61439-1/2 standards.
Evaluate product and system designs and configurations for compliance with relevant industry standards such as UL9540, NEC, IEC62933, UL1741, UL1973, and IEEE1574.
Perform load flow and short circuit analysis for DC and AC circuits.
Design and engineer cable schedules for AC and DC circuits including Single-line interpretation, ampacity calculation, and cable/termination selection.
Develop control solutions including I/O table, PLC selection, PLC logic development, testing, and deployment of solution into a production environment.
Create testing specifications, plans, and interconnection requirements, select adequate components and test equipment, develop/calculate settings and configuration, and execute in lab environment and/or on-site ensuring compliance with functional and QA requirements.
Develop product documentation such as product manuals, work instructions, flow charts, and technical descriptions.
Maintain product NRTL documentation including critical component list.
Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for the product development programs.
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; graduate degree preferred.
10+ years of electrical engineering experience focusing on designing and testing power systems and control panels preferably in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Ability to design electrical circuits for up to 1000 Volt AC and 1500 Volt DC ensuring compliance with common design standards.
Able to review project specifications and interconnection requirements, select adequate PCS, and develop/calculate settings and configuration.
Experience designing and configuring Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Knowledge in embedded software development.
Working knowledge of industrial control philosophies and communication protocols.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar schematic generation software.
Problem-solving and innovative mindset.
Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, and vendors in a fast-paced environment.
