Overview:
Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced relational database administrator to join their Infrastructure and Platform team to play a key role in managing our diverse database infrastructure. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of their SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, or CockroachDB database systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of our database infrastructure.

What you will be doing:

1. Design, implement, and maintain database systems including SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, or CockroachDB running on Windows and Linux infrastructure.
2. Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related components.
3. Automate database configuration, maintenance tasks, and monitoring using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
4. Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and scalability.
5. Support client database functions, including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) services.
6. Provide management reports, customer reports, and data extracts.
7. Perform database backups, restores, and disaster recovery procedures.
8. Develop and maintain database security protocols, ensuring data privacy and integrity.
9. Provide support and guidance to developers and other team members regarding database-related topics.
10. Participate in capacity planning and performance-tuning activities.
11. Stay updated with emerging database technologies and best practices, recommending improvements to enhance system performance and efficiency.

What you must have:

1. Proven experience as a Database Administrator, managing any of the following databases: SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, or CockroachDB.
2. Strong understanding of database concepts, principles, and best practices.
3. Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL queries.
4. Experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
5. Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures, replication, and high-availability strategies.
6. Solid understanding of database security and access control.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
8. Strong communication and collaboration abilities, working effectively within a team environment.
9. Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL Certified Engineer) are a plus.

Salary/Rate Range: $90,000—$130,000 CAD
