About the role:

Reporting to the Director, Data and Analytics, the Senior Data Analyst will join a team of high performing and collaborative professionals, working closely together on the development and execution of Brookfield Renewable’s growth strategies in North America.

A Senior Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing data and providing insights to support the near and long-term strategy for the Trading and Risk groups. They work closely with traders, analysts, and VPs to identify and execute technology-focused business transformation and process improvement initiatives. They use advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling techniques to solve high-priority business problems and draw data-driven insights. They will also support ongoing projects related to ML-based wholesale price forecasting models, hydropower optimization tools, and an internally managed risk management reporting database.

Additional responsibilities for a Senior Data Analyst include designing and configuring reporting and analysis using Business Intelligence and Visual Analytics platforms. They also design and implement data analysis systems and processes to support business decision-making, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements, communicating complex data analysis and insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner, staying up-to-date with the latest data analysis tools and techniques, and continuously improving the data analysis capabilities of the organization, and ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all data sources. As part of their collaboration with the business and cross-functional teams, the Senior Data Analyst will also be responsible for identifying and configuring new data pipelines to improve data collection and analysis.

What you'll be doing:

  • Analyze data and provide insights to support Brookfield’s proprietary data warehousing and analytics platform (built on AWS Databricks).
  • Coordinate with the support teams, internal stakeholders and external vendors to maintain and improve performance and user experience of the Information Delivery Data platform used by Commercial, Trading and Risk teams to support reporting, fundamental analysis, and development of tools.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and build business cases for solutions for groups within the Senior Data Analyst’s purview.
  • Work closely with the Data Analytics team and relevant IT teams to support the long term platform strategy and identify enhancements.
  • Collaborate with external partners and engineering teams to execute the development of new tools and ensure a support strategy will be established after execution.
  • Work with the Data Analytics team and stakeholders to define business requirements and outcomes and ensure the Information Delivery Data platform and supporting IT infrastructure can support current and future digital transformation initiatives.

  • Advanced understanding of data management and visualization practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep up with emerging technologies and a passion for continuous learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a Data Analytics or Data Science capacity, working in an Energy Trading Entity or equivalent.
  • Experience in electricity physical or financial markets is an asset.
  • Experience in Python, SQL, ETL processes, and familiarity with data processing frameworks such as Spark.
  • Ability to setup/maintain some basic/advanced data pipelines using batch processing or real-time processing.
  • Experience with Data Viz tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with AWS tools and products (S3, EventBridge, etc.).
  • Exposure to ML and AI use cases and projects.
  • Exposure to Databricks.
  • Exposure and understanding of data serialization formats like JSON, Parquet, and Avro.
  • Familiarity with SDLC, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and change management.
  • Experience or certification in Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or PMP is a plus.
