Job Description

Department Overview

The TD Credit Card and Personal Lending Retail Risk Management (CC/PL RRM) team is responsible for the development and execution of CC and PL automated risk decisions and credit adjudication initiatives that assist our product partners to achieve growth and profitability targets while maintaining the overall credit risk quality of CC and PL lending portfolio and ensuring portfolio performance remains within risk appetite. Accountabilities include providing effective challenge on CC and PL Portfolio, as well as designing, implementing and monitoring credit risk strategies.

Responsibilities:

  1. As a senior risk analyst, you will leverage your understanding of consumer credit behaviour to investigate, create, implement and validate various strategies, scorecards and policies using complex data including cohort time series analysis, develop business cases, perform post implementation monitoring and reporting to ensure targets are achieved.
  2. Through advanced analytics and data mining, translate insights into knowledge to assess and provide effective challenge on the health of the Cards and Personal Lending portfolio. Support Risk Management Points of View to inform Management of increasing and emerging risks.
  3. Monitor portfolio performance and strategies, using all appropriate quantitative methods and reporting tools, provide insight on variances and make recommendations to further the achievement of business objectives, while controlling delinquency and losses within risk appetite.
  4. Work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to design and recommend solutions - including new decision tools and segmentation - that improve the understanding and quantification of risk. Play an active role in supporting engagement of senior management in socializing and gaining formal approval of recommendations.
  5. Determine impacts of proposed solutions on credit strategies and risk performance of retail credit portfolios and strategies. Ensure proposals are balanced and comprehensive, considering customer and risk impacts. Solutions must support management of risk and enable business growth within satisfactory risk parameters.
  6. Gain a deep understanding over complex automated credit decision systems and strategy engines. Translate data driven insights into technology solutions that give the ability to operate and control retail credit strategies to manage credit risk. Solutions must be implemented into existing credit systems in a cost and time effective manner.
  7. Support the ongoing evaluation and use of predictive models in credit strategies to ensure effective use and application of various available models.
  8. Provide a broad range of risk analysis, reporting, monitoring and support to business requests and acting as a specialist/expert in providing guidance and advice on a range of risk related matters within assigned or own area of specialization.
  9. Collaborate with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders including: Credit Cards and Personal Lending Product team, related Retail Risk teams, TD partner analytics support teams, Technology, and other Control functions.

Job Requirements

This role requires a combination of technical skills, analytical expertise, project management, business knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills:

Technical and Analytical Skills:

  1. Superior understanding of data structures and platforms. Proficiency in SQL and/or Python.
  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Databricks is an asset.
  3. Background in analytics and data driven insights and strategy design.
  4. Ability to produce impactful data visualizations using complex data.
  5. Exposure to credit models and basic understanding of regression and machine learning modeling techniques and applications.
  6. Understanding of bank technology platforms and credit systems. Exposure to application interface software used in cross-environment data transfer connections is an asset.
  7. Acute attention to detail to solve problems and overcome challenges.

Business Knowledge:

  1. Credit Risk Management experience in a financial institution or similar is a strong asset.
  2. Understanding of retail credit products, policies and processes.
  3. Demonstrated analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  1. Strong ownership mentality and can-do attitude.
  2. Excellent relationship management skills.
  3. Flexibility and resilience to execute in an agile environment, including the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  4. Excellent presentation and communication skills and strong business acumen with ability to engage senior audiences.
  5. Excellent writing and story-telling skills with ability to synthesize complex data-driven insights into compelling and comprehensive recommendations to inform executive decisions.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills able to influence and manage a very broad and diverse set of partners and stakeholders.

Education and Accreditation

  1. Graduate degree in a quantitative field: MSc Statistical Science, Masters of Data Science, MSc in Management Business Analytics, Masters of Business Analytics, Masters of Management Analytics, or similar. 2+ years relevant experience is an asset.
  2. Undergraduate degree in a quantitative field: Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Science, or similar. 5+ years relevant experience is an asset.
