What you’ll be doing
In support of CIBC’s core purpose: to make our clients’ ambitions a reality, Risk Management is accountable for the independent oversight of risk management inherent to CIBC’s transactions and activities.
Reporting to the Director, Credit Process Challenge and Effectiveness, the Senior Consultant, Credit Process Challenge and Effectiveness (‘Senior Consultant’) will be part of a 2nd Line of Defense function responsible for developing programs and methods that ensure compliance to policy and regulatory credit risk requirements for RESL and other retail products. This includes providing effective challenge to 1st Line of Defense processes and activities. The Senior Consultant will manage and execute credit processes effectiveness reviews, identify process gaps and issue recommendations to ensure compliant, efficient and sustainable credit decision processes. Accountabilities will also include leading stakeholders workshops, reporting to executives and ensuring recommendations are implemented. The Senior Consultant is a key contributor to the risk controls and oversight function for RESL, along with the other retail products, to ensure that CIBC operates within its risk appetite as a 2nd Line of Defense, to ensure proper strategic focus on regulatory matters and efficient use of CIBC’s resources.

How you’ll succeed

Regulatory oversight – You leverage strong analytical skills to provide effective review and challenge of regulatory process and procedure documentation, regulatory oversight of OSFI B20 Guidelines, adherence and compliance to the RCM Policy and other regulatory initiatives.
Data analytics – You enjoy investigating complex problems, and using data to guide the investigation process. You are confident in your ability to analyze complex sets of data and make inferences from said data.
Structured thinking – You think in structured way when solving problems, and organizing work and can analyze data/situations fully and accurately to guide or reach productive decisions.
Delivery mindset – You execute and deliver on your mandate with key focus on timeliness and quality. You understand how you can support and deliver on a team’s strategic direction and evolve processes, procedures, tools and training to enable the team to effectively deliver on Risk Analytics and Credit Decision 2nd Line of Defense oversight mandate.
Communication and interpersonal skills – You exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external teams and different lines of business regarding the effectiveness reviews schedules and results.
Strategic thinker - You research what is happening in the industry, including regulatory trends and financial institution best practices, to predict themes and trends and lead the development and oversight of a sustainable and scalable controls environment to ensure regulatory compliance.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience in process re-engineering assessments, process examinations or audit and compliance reviews. It's an asset if you have a Lean Six Sigma certification.
You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems, and making sense of information. You're confident in your ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way. It’s an asset if you have experience with data analytics tools including Excel, Python, SQL, etc.
You understand retail financial products origination and servicing journeys, and have an understanding of the regulatory environment applicable to financial institutions.
You have a University Degree/ College Diploma or equivalent in areas such as business, engineering or computer science.
