Career Opportunity

You will be responsible for the inspection of work activities carried out via construction projects and service contracts for the Plant Maintenance Department. This includes ensuring that work is performed in accordance with authorized contract documents and with applicable codes and safety regulations.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for the inspection of work activities carried out via construction projects and service contracts that are administered by Plant Maintenance Department
  • Develop the scope of work, ensure the work is performed in accordance with contract documents and specifications as well as all applicable codes and safety regulations
  • Generating, reviewing, and submitting Purchase Authorization (PAs) and Purchase Order Amendment Authority (POAAs)
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining service contracts
  • Conducting kick-off meetings with external contractors and preparing minutes of the meetings
  • Reviewing contract submittals for completeness and ensuring work is completed in accordance with the reviewed submissions
  • Reporting on contract deficient work and following up on corrective actions including inspection of same
  • Review Safety Inspection Reports and ensure that outside contractors and internal trades take corrective action for all unsafe situations identified
  • Responsible for quality assurance of the final product by inspecting contractor's work to ensure the requirements of the Contract Documents are fulfilled
  • Reviewing requests for payment and confirming accuracy of amounts claimed against work completed
  • Analyzing contract expenditures against contract pricing
  • Candidate will be required to participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Sound knowledge of construction/contract development, inspection and management practices, principles, methods and techniques
  • Sound knowledge of construction products/materials to ensure quality and correct usage in construction projects related to facilities
  • Must have knowledge of procurement and contract administration processes
  • A valid Province of Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s license and ability to use a personal vehicle to travel to construction work sites
  • Demonstrated understanding in the development of contract specifications and drawings and in inspecting various work sites in order to ensure work that is undertaken by external contractors is completed in accordance with contract documentation
  • Sound judgment and good organizational, observational, investigational, administrative and problem solving skills combined with effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Requires demonstrated project management abilities and the ability to achieve results
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction/maintenance practices
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and software applications related to the work
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be well organized and capable of prioritizing
  • Sound knowledge of the applicable sections of the TTC’s collective agreements
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects. Good working knowledge of all applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental legislation and regulations including Occupational Health & Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Regulation 347 and other legislation such as the Employment Standards Act related to the work
  • Must have or obtain in-house TTC certifications including, but not necessarily limited to, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Emergency Spills Response, Working at Heights, Subway/SRT Rule Book etc., in order to set up safe work zones. May be required to successfully complete various job related courses as defined by the Plant Maintenance Department.
