Team & Job Overview

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

This position resides in the Risk and Corporate Platforms Family, which is responsible for the delivery of technologies to enable EDC’s Risk Management and Legal groups. The Risk and Corporate Platforms Family provides oversight and support and enables EDC to manage its risks in an effective and consistent manner that leverages industry best practice.

The Senior Business Analyst works in a matrixed and collaborative environment with other Risk and Corporate Platforms Family members and multiple delivery partners, to connect business subject matter experts and technical communities in the development of solutions that support the program’s needs. The Senior Business Analyst elicits, analyzes, communicates, validates and translates business needs into artifacts to be consumed by delivery teams.

The Senior Business Analyst is a self-starter and a key member who works independently as well as with the Risk and Corporate Platforms Family, its vendor partner, various technology stakeholders, and internal customers, to enable business outcomes. The Senior Business Analyst will hit the ground running to assess processes and information streams, identifies use cases, and is proficient in the utilization of the appropriate tools, models and techniques as part of delivering desired outcomes. The Senior Business Analyst proactively builds relationships with business subject matter experts, and collaborates on requirements artifacts with delivery partners, influencing format and ensuring best practices for communicating requirements among stakeholder groups.

The Senior Business Analyst is recognized as a leader within the Risk and Corporate Platforms Family and is an active contributor to the overall maturation of the team and its agile practices.

This position requires digital competencies, an ability to learn new solutions rapidly, the agility to respond to constant change, strong IT knowledge, as well as excellent communications and analytical skills. It also necessitates strong collaborative and relationship management skills given the high level of interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand business needs and capture them clearly and in an easily-consumed format.
  • Deconstruct complex technical solutions and explain them to a non-technical audience in simple and clear terms.
  • Present complex or conflicting situations/issues to stakeholders; use persuasion, influence, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Identify changes, in business terms, as a result of changing technology or digital capabilities.
  • Solve problems leveraging critical thinking concepts and data.
  • Contribute to the creation of strategy and planning with team leadership.
  • Understand and effortlessly articulate Risk and Corporate Platforms Roadmap and ensure requirements conversations/outputs align to Roadmap.
  • Utilize broad knowledge of business processes, applications, products, business strategy and internal and external customer needs to contribute to the optimum business solution.
  • Recognize pro-actively where solutions impact related workstreams, applications, business processes, or data/information integrity.
  • Lead informative well-organized presentations and facilitate sessions to review requirements and identify gaps; bring others to agreement around a set of ideas to achieve the goal or bring about beneficial resolution.
  • Deliver clear, complete and usable documentation, that is right sized for the circumstances.
  • Ensure BA activities and outputs align with standards set forth by the EDC Business Analysis Chapter.
  • Work collaboratively with the Risk and Corporate Platforms Family, its vendor partners, and internal stakeholders, towards a common goal.
  • Build, sustain, and leverage positive relationships with persons within and outside their areas of immediate responsibility as well as external contacts; anticipating, assessing, and meeting their needs in a mutually beneficial manner, while managing expectations.
  • Anticipate, prepare, and respond effectively to change; creating an open, receptive work environment.
  • Support business subject matters experts through user acceptance testing (UAT) and operational readiness activities.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Commerce, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Business Analyst or similar position.
  • Solid knowledge of Agile Delivery Practices, and large program delivery roles and activities.
  • Technical implementation and project lifecycle experience including familiarity with the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Expert knowledge of Azure DevOps (ADO), JIRA, Confluence and/or other requirement management tools.
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills; ability to translate broad, strategic intent into tactical plans and directions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with both business and technical audiences; strong listening skills.
  • Strong proven track record of liaising with stakeholders for business requirements, specification documents, testing processes and other relevant information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of Cybersecurity principles and how they can be applied to the requirements gathering process.

Assets

  • Business Analyst (BA) Certification such as IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or IIBA Agile Analysis Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Master’s Certificate in Business Analysis.
  • Agile Certification such as PMI Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) or similar.
  • Knowledge risk management domain in banking would be an added advantage coupled with hands-on experience on any of the specialized risk management solutions like Moodys RCO or CreditLens.
  • Experience in financial industries and/or legal services.
  • Experience in business intelligence, data, and reporting.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (English and French).
  • Business Analyst 18: Salaries typically range from $92,355 to $123,140 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

  • Export Development Canada offers a hybrid work environment.
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from Community Hubs in Toronto, Mississauga, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.
