Senior Biologist

We have a challenging opportunity for a Full-Time experienced Senior Biologist to join our dynamic team. Our ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in wetlands, vegetation, and reclamation field surveying and reporting. Additional technical experience in aquatic and/or fisheries, soils, and wildlife would be an asset.

This position would be based in Alberta and offers the flexibility to work from your home region or the Calgary or Edmonton offices. Our team regularly supports projects in Alberta and BC, but also in the US and globally.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical direction and regulatory guidance for various projects and clients in Alberta and BC.
2. Prepare permit/approval applications and obtain authorizations.
3. Interpret and advise on regulatory guidelines in the US and around the globe when needed.
4. Liaise with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
5. Author and/or Senior review discipline specific technical reports, workplans, cost estimates, and proposals.
6. Conduct data analysis and interpretation.
7. Work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
8. Mentor team members to develop their technical and project skills.
9. Develop and maintain relationships with clients.
10. Participate in fieldwork as needed.
11. Participate in business development activities.
12. Travel as required for various projects.
13. Responsible for personal safety and following safe working practices according to Worley occupational health and safety procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

1. Bachelors or Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Resource Management, or equivalent degree program, or an Environmental Technology/technical diploma, or equivalent diploma program.
2. Minimum of 7+ years of experience working in vegetation and/or wetland ecology with previous consulting experience.
3. Registered Professional Biologist; RPBio or PBio designation with a Pro-10 organization (i.e. ASPB or AIA) in Alberta.
4. Experience working in North America (Canada and USA) would be an asset.
5. Accreditation as an authenticating wetland practitioner would be an asset.
6. Knowledge of regulatory framework within Alberta relating to vegetation, wetlands, and reclamation.
7. Demonstrated experience in completing and authorizing wetland regulatory submissions under the Alberta Wetland Policy and Water Act.
8. Proven experience in conducting reclamation assessments, developing reclamation plans, and preparing reclamation certificate applications in accordance with various regulatory bodies in Alberta.
9. Proficiency in plant identification and ability to perform fieldwork in remote, rugged locations under diverse environmental conditions.
10. Industry experience in sectors such as pipelines, upstream and downstream oil and gas facilities, mining, infrastructure, or renewable energy projects is considered an asset.
11. Demonstrated experience in writing proposals, work plans, and creating cost estimates.
12. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
13. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
14. Advanced technical writing skills, with experience as a senior reviewer and authenticating professional of technical reports.
15. Proficient in computer applications and software relevant to the role.
16. Project management experience considered an asset.
17. Self-starter and flexible team player. Reliable and motivated. Ability to work within a team environment.
