Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

We are seeking a mid-senior to senior-level BI Developer who will play a pivotal role in scaling up our business intelligence operations. This role is meant as a bridge between business and IT, with functions overlapping data engineering, data analysis and dashboarding. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both on-premises and cloud data environments, with expertise in MS SQL Server / SSIS, Azure services, Snowflake, and Power BI.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Architecture and Development
    1. Collaborate with data analysts to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions.
    2. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data architectures and pipelines.
    3. Implement data warehouses and data lakes using SQL Server (on-prem) and Azure cloud technologies.
    4. Collaborate and assist in new data acquisition and examinations.
    5. Design and develop data integration packages in the pursuance of ETL/ELT.
    6. Document processes and development.
    7. Actively share knowledge and promote best practices related to data architecture, acquisition, integration, warehousing and governance.
    8. Utilize Azure services (ADLS, Databricks, ADF) and Snowflake to centralize and enhance data availability.
    9. Migrate on-prem data solutions to cloud platforms where applicable.
  2. Data Governance
    1. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all platforms.
    2. Develop and maintain a data inventory in the analytics warehouse.
    3. Own the single source of truth conceptual model in the data warehouse.
    4. Collaborate with IT to ensure privacy / security and access to data is properly aligned to organizational standards.
    5. Provide thought leadership and support executive decision making around the use of data.
    6. Implement best practices for data governance and compliance.
    7. Provide project management for the implementation of data strategy and governance projects.
  3. Technical Support and Collaboration
    1. Provide technical guidance and support to the BI team and other stakeholders.
    2. In collaboration with IT, leverage Azure DevOps for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and project tracking.
  4. Business Intelligence Enablement
    1. Support the analysis, design, development and implementation of new reporting requirements.
    2. Assist with development and optimization of Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models.
    3. Assist in the design, development, and implementation of Microsoft Power Platform solutions.
  5. Business Acumen
    1. Apply industry knowledge of life insurance, financial reporting, and brokerage to inform data solutions.
    2. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to align solutions with business goals and corporate strategy.
    3. Engage in actions that encourage, reflect and align with PPI’s ESG commitments.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  1. Education and Experience
    1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
    2. 5+ years of experience in data engineering and business intelligence development.
  2. Technical Skills
    1. Proficient in SQL Server, SSIS and T-SQL programming.
    2. Experience with Azure services: Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory (ADF).
    3. Expertise in Snowflake data warehousing.
    4. Strong skills in Power BI development.
    5. Familiarity with Azure DevOps and agile methodologies.
    6. Experience with Version Control Systems or Source Code Management tools such as GitHub.
    7. Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  3. Soft Skills
    1. Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in French is a plus.
    2. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    3. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    4. Demonstrated supervisory skills an asset.
    5. PowerPoint and presentation skills.
  4. Tools and Software
    1. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
    2. Familiarity with other BI tools and programming languages is a plus.
  5. Business Knowledge
    1. Understanding of life insurance, financial reporting, and brokerage industries is highly desirable.

The expected salary range for this position starts at $105,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skill set.
