What We Are Seeking


As a Senior Architect at Zeidler, you will actively contribute to the design, delivery and coordination of all phases of the project from pre-design to site administration. This will include responsibility for architectural drawings, design integration/strategies and planning requirements. Collaboration is a key component of this role and will involve consultant coordination, client relations and strong project communication. Duties include:

Lead projects as a Project Manager including but not limited to the management of team, scope, schedule, finances and communication following the firm's processes.

Taking a strong role in the creation of designs including conception and development including preparing high quality design details

Ability to review and develop specifications

Supervises the preparation of preliminary plans and detailed drawings for highly complex projects

Develops design concepts and translates them into design documents during project phases

Collaborates on client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings

Provides instruction on specific design objectives, complex features and solutions

Provides direction in team meetings to ensure continuity of design intent

Attends site meetings, performs shop drawing review and contract administrative duties as required

Works primarily with the Architectural team and occasionally with the Interiors teams as required

Mentor and coach teams and individuals to develop their skills/ capacities and reach their potential

Lead by effective communication, enabling channels of communication, providing effective feedback and being approachable/ supportive

Support Management in the preparation and conducting of employee performance reviews

Oversee project staffing and sets objectives and expectations for the team

Responsible for managing direct reports to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner

Reviews and approves direct reports’ timesheet

Represent the firm in the industry to advance the company’s interest and profile

Build the culture by role modeling the values of the organization

Contribute to the development of proposals and business development for the studio

Contribute to maintaining and improving strong policies, procedures and systems for the studio

Maintain strong presence in the professional association

What Will You Bring

Degree in Architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution

10+ years of experience as an Architect

Extensive experience with delivering federal and/or institutional and/or healthcare projects, i.e. complex building types

Registered with OAA or another Canadian architectural association

Assure project compliance with architectural office procedures and related architectural drawing standards

Contribute to the building design process from conceptual design to contract documents and site administration

Full knowledge of local construction systems and related detailing including the integration of sustainable building design criteria

LEED AP and/or Certified Passive House Designer preferred

Extensive experience with local city development and building permit process required

Strong conceptual and design skills – creative drawing ability, 3D modeling and freehand sketch skills required

Technical drawing ability – Revit and CAD required

Ability to work in an open, collaborative workplace environment

This position may require the ability to travel as needed. Travel may include visiting client sites, attending meetings, participating in training sessions, and representing the company at industry events.
