Report to the Director, Nunavut Bureau of Statistics, the Senior Analyst/Project Manager will plan and conduct analytical and other statistical projects to create or improve existing statistical information and to develop new survey methods and concepts and definitions. This will involve the development, collection, and analysis of statistical information and the dissemination of the findings. This statistical information on the economic and social conditions of Nunavummiut will be available to the government, industry, media, and the general public as critical input to decision making for a vast array of key economic and social policies, programs, and other activities.
In addition, the Senior Analyst/Project Manager will provide subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff and management on study or survey results, on methods of socio-economic analysis, or on statistical techniques and systems. They will exchange information and provide advice to other statistical agencies on surveys or analytical projects. The position will also provide subject-matter expertise, advice, and consultative services, interpretations, and guidance on methods, concepts, and data to users, within and outside the Nunavut Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and will directly manage statistical projects or studies.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized university degree in Statistics, Economics, Demography, Social Sciences with a specialty in Statistics and quantitative research methods or a relevant field, plus three (3) years of experience working in a statistical agency or in a research position using statistical data. A master’s degree in a related field is an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Effective written and verbal communication skills would be considered an asset.
