UCalgary International is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Analyst, International Data & Strategy.
This position reports to the Senior Director, International and is a key member of the UCalgary International team. The Senior Analyst is responsible for facilitating data-driven decision making within UCalgary International by providing expert data advice, collection, compilation, and visualization to the team. This position is responsible for leading the coordination, compiling, and disseminating data (collaboration, student, engagement, etc.) that allow effective decision making in the unit, and communication to stakeholder groups including Faculties and Schools, Research Services (RS), the Office of Institutional Analysis (OIA) and the Office of the Registrar.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Primary individual responsible within the international team for data management, reporting and program assessment. Responsibilities include generating institutional and faculty reports which are distributed to senior leaders and associate deans.
- Development of models, interactive tools, and ad hoc reports, sharing observations and recommendations with senior leaders, associate deans, data managers, directors, and other stakeholders for further consideration.
- Leads high level database tasks, including building new queries, refining existing queries, exports, imports, and mailings on behalf of the international team.
- Assessment and delegation of database inquiries, requests and processes between Faculties and UCI's office, and supporting regular maintenance of international data.
- Leads the creation of department processes according to defined business standards in a manner that contributes to the overall integrity and accuracy of the databases and dashboard.
- Provide leadership, advice, and support for all international staff and to faculties/school related to KPIs and overall international data.
- Provide ongoing strategic advice on the tracking and administrative aspects of key system within UCI.
- Work closely with the Senior Director on strategic projects including world rankings, unit reviews, reporting to university, government, etc as required.
- Represent UCI in unit meetings and act as the primary point of contact for all international data troubleshooting.
- Provides expertise and consultation to UCI staff across campus concerning data manipulation, input, and queries.
- Develop high-quality presentations of UCI-level data, ensuring proper university branding is followed.
- Provide knowledge and guidance on SciVal and Scopus with pulling information on global research that helps drive better decisions, action, and outcomes.
- Respond to multiple requests from clients to inform and provide strategic advice and assistance with various database functions including the design and implementation of queries and exports.
- Accountable for creating, maintaining, and evolving, in consultation with UCI leadership, reporting related to international data and support the regular reporting activities of the department.
- Lead the KPIs process and collection while recommending data input and reporting processes that effectively measure international data and overall Global Engagement Plan KPIs and future plans.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Post-secondary education and five or more years' experience in an environment in where the management and analysis of data are integral to the role required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in statistical analysis of data, data presentation, database creation/monitoring, strategic communication documentation writing and review required.
- Strong experience with Business Intelligence applications and tools with an emphasis on reporting, data mining and advanced analytics required.
- Strong experience with aspects of Information Management such as the collection and use of information from multiple sources in both structured and unstructured formats required.
- Experience with database design as it pertains to Information Management required.
- Experience with data integration in the context of the unified reporting of Enterprise owned, Business Unit owned, and externally owned data required.
- Strong experience in problem solving and troubleshooting in a team environment, and able to demonstrate effective team skills such as listening, sharing information, and supporting team decision-making processes required.
- Outcome-focused and exceptional project management acumen.
- Development of logical and conceptual data flows that are in support of departmental/unit project requirements and guides various business departments/units in the appropriate and effective use of data.
- Previous experience using a customer relationship database and reporting dashboards.
- Able to input information accurately and efficiently into the database.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is crucial, and superior ability to spot errors and inconsistencies when supporting international colleagues and managing data.
- Experience in using and supporting the MS Office Suite, especially as it interfaces with current database technologies.
- Experience with SSRS-SQL Service Reporting Services, Tableau, data warehouses/marts, RDBMS, and PowerBI is preferred and would be considered a strong asset.
- Specific knowledge in the functions of mail merges, Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
- Strong collaborator, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
- Able to remain positive and confident under pressure, to interact in a highly professional manner and to build good relationships with clients and team members.
- Track record of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Experience in international education and a strong understanding of post-secondary environments.
- Naturally collaborative, demonstrates an openness to new ideas and feedback, and appreciates the importance of meeting clearly defined outcomes.
- Understanding of, and a passion for, working within a performance management culture.
