Job description

We are currently recruiting a senior analyst to lead Universities Canada’s efforts to address climate change and support its members' climate work. Responsibilities will include:

  • Mapping and tracking current university initiatives, collecting and analyzing climate-related data, and monitoring and reporting on impacts;
  • Organizing and hosting climate-related events; publishing climate-related materials and resources;
  • Fostering relationships, collaborating, and consulting with partners and organizations across different sectors;
  • Increasing awareness of the impact of universities’ climate efforts;
  • Identifying and pursuing non-governmental funding opportunities in climate; and
  • Addressing Universities Canada’s own impact.

The ideal person for this role will possess the education, experience, and knowledge listed below:

Education and experience
  • Master’s degree in public policy or in one of the social sciences.
  • Four to six years of relevant experience.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas protocol.
  • Knowledge of climate impacts, policies, and practices to address them; understanding of higher education issues and trends.
Abilities/Qualities
  • Strong ability to collect and analyze data; ability to conduct research and write cogently and succinctly.
  • Ability to organize events.
  • Bilingualism preferred.
  • Strong management/administration/organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently.
  • Judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

The position is based in Ottawa. Universities Canada has adopted a hybrid work model where employees are expected to work in the office a minimum of two days a week.

The salary range for this position starts at $90,422 depending on experience. Candidates who do not meet all of the position requirements may be considered in an underfill capacity, in which case the candidate would be hired at a lower level than the position level.
