The Role

As a member of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the Senior AML Controls Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness of compliance controls for Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF), Sanctions, and Fraud Prevention. Reporting to the Senior Manager, FIU Operational Control, this role requires a strong understanding of operations risk and compliance testing methodologies to assess and validate the effectiveness of controls at both the business and function levels. The Senior AML Controls Analyst will apply their knowledge of AML, ATF, and Sanctions legislation, as well as ML/TF/Sanctions/Fraud typologies and red flags, to support the ongoing evaluation of compliance controls across the business.

The role also assists with creation, delivering and tracking of MCAP’s financial crimes training program, as well as actively identifying operational risks, and providing insights to evolve the company’s financial crimes prevention program and the overall success of the FIU. The incumbent will contribute to achieving the FIU's strategic goals and objectives through the execution of operational programs and initiatives to strengthen the company’s compliance posture against potential internal and external threats.

Operational Compliance

  • Support the Senior Manager in facilitation of annual risk assessment and self-assessment activities for all lines of business, to identify deficiencies or weaknesses in AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud prevention controls and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain tracking reports for identified line of business gaps and deficiencies and ensure timely remediation thereof.
  • Perform quality assurance testing on FIU operational activities and report findings to the Senior Manager.
  • Provide support with gathering and consolidating of information/data as required to assist the Senior Manager with reporting responsibilities.
  • Maintain FIU's AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud Prevention procedures, ensuring they remain current and compliant with regulatory changes.
  • Support compliance related quality assurance reviews, independent testing & other monitoring program requirements associated to AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud prevention.
  • Demonstrate proficient working knowledge of the AML/ATF/Sanctions regulatory requirements governing the three lines of business, as well as relevant industry standards and guidelines.
  • Provide support to Senior Manager with FIU initiatives related to technical system changes and regulatory changes when required.
  • Conduct ad-hoc reviews to assess compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements for operational functions.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture is established and encouraged.
  • Understand and apply MCAP’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide specialized advice, guidance, and direction to team members on money laundering, financing of terrorism, and other related issues as they pertain to investigative work.
  • Provide support with internal and external audits, reviews and examinations.

Reporting and Communication

  • Support the development of assessment reports for the management team and CAMLO.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to address compliance challenges and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Regularly exercise discretion in handling correspondence, information, and confidential matters; escalate issues when necessary.

Training and Development

  • Provide support in the delivery and continuous improvement of MCAP’s AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud prevention-related training programs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the FIU’s training materials, resources, job aids, etc.
  • Track and monitor training completion for staff members, ensuring adherence to deadlines, and provide timely communication regarding training requirements; respond to staff inquiries and provide support as needed.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous improvement of compliance controls to mitigate ML/TF/Sanctions/Fraud risks.
  • Champion a compliance culture within the FIU, emphasizing the importance of risk mitigation across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to drive effective change and continuous improvements.

OTHER

  • Stay current with latest emerging trends and industry best practices and make appropriate recommendations for change to Senior Manager as identified.
  • Maintain up-to-date skill sets relevant for ML, TF, sanctions, fraud prevention and other regulatory matters to perform FIU testing.
  • Completion of required ongoing continuing education requirements.
  • Keep up to date and current with all legislative reviews as prescribed within FIU Training Procedures.
  • Other duties as required.

What You Bring To The Team

  • 3-5 years of experience in AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud compliance, with a strong understanding of financial crime risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with investigative techniques and financial criminal trends.
  • In-depth knowledge of AML/ATF regulations.
  • Knowledge of AML/ATF/Sanctions regulatory requirements, and fraud prevention activities.
  • In depth knowledge of the mortgage industry and mortgage life cycle is preferred.
  • Extreme proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of MARS, Liberty, Nova, Atlas, RUBI, Mercury, E-Docs, Articulate 360 and Cornerstone is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed assessments and communicate findings clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
