Overview

The Senior Actuarial Analyst will perform risk quantification including deterministic scenario analysis /Financial Condition Test (FCT) reporting and stochastic capital modelling. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will also collaborate with staff from other areas such as Pricing, Reinsurance, Valuation, Capital Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Investments, Actuarial Forecasting and Products to work on joint tasks and projects. The Senior Actuarial Analyst must maintain confidentiality due to the extensive impact throughout the corporation and the public.

The Senior Actuarial Analyst will have access to the corporation’s Actuarial Development Program (ADP) and ongoing successful completion of the Casualty Actuarial Exams (CAS) exams is required to remain in the program.

The Senior Actuarial Analyst is expected to take full ownership of certain tasks and deliverables, communicate results to senior management and mentor actuarial analysts and students.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire the underlying claims and policy data from the Corporation’s Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Liaise with applicable departments and committees to acquire and develop business knowledge.
  • Perform complex actuarial analyses using actuarial and/or statistical tools, techniques, and software.
  • Focus in the following actuarial areas:
    • Deterministic scenario analysis
      • Development/maintenance of a base model that reflects MPI’s actual financial accounting practices.
      • Scenario development including calibration of appropriate economic and insurance related shocks.
      • Results analysis including summarizing scenario outcomes and identifying key risk drivers.
      • Preparation of articulate reports detailing assumptions, methodologies, scenario descriptions and findings/recommendations.
    • Stochastic capital modelling
      • Data preparation including querying and scrubbing of relevant historical data.
      • Model development/maintenance including defining the model framework, selecting and parameterizing appropriate probability distributions and defining model dependencies.
      • Calculating appropriate risk metrics including a measure of Economic Capital.
      • Using model outputs for capital allocation, reinsurance suitability analysis and other purposes as required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a minimum of seven Casualty Actuarial Exams and attained ACAS designation.
  • Five years of experience in an actuarial environment.
  • Experience in providing guidance, constructive feedback and mentorship to peers.
  • Experience in presenting analysis and findings to leadership.
  • Working knowledge of R, SQL, and/or Python would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong broad-based analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written with individuals at all levels).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work with changing priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive corporate information.
