Position: Senior Accounting Manager/Bookkeeper

Department: Finance & Accounting

Reports To: CEO & COO

Location: 156 Parkdale Avenue North, Hamilton ON - On site attendance for this job is required 5 days/week

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to join our Group of Companies at Generational Wealth Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions for 5 companies, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and managing another bookkeeper. The Senior Accounting Manager will play a key role in directing and controlling the accounting department, develop and implement financial policies and procedures, coordinating financial planning, budgeting and analyzing various Construction Estimates. Above and beyond that, a critical piece of the Senior Accounting Manager's role shall include managing 50+ bank accounts, forecasting their cash flows, requesting funds and preparing monthly cash flow reports in compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of digital and physical copies of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results.
  • Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely across companies. Review journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and prepare monthly Profit and Loss Statements.
  • Supervision & Team Management: Manage another individual in the accounting department, providing guidance, mentorship, and training to potential new hires. Assign tasks, review work, and ensure team efficiency and accuracy.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Monitor and enforce internal controls to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process, providing required documentation and addressing audit findings as necessary.
  • Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow reporting, including forecasting and managing working capital needs. This is also subject to AP/AR responsibilities.
  • Financial Analysis & Insights: Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to senior management for improving financial performance, profitability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, and track performance against budgeted figures.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Leading Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage vendor bills, charge credit cards, reconcile monthly CC statements, manage property taxes, track mortgage and insurance payments, prepare budgets, and prepare invoices for construction.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation will be considered as an Asset
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 1-3 years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and audit preparation
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Buildium) and Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and cloud-based financial tools
  • Familiarity with Property Management Software Buildium is preferred
  • Skills & Competencies:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting & Finance
  • Experience doing bookkeeping for Real estate company
  • Experience with tax compliance and planning
