Job description

Who we are
You know those big cities that still feel like small towns? Where everyone’s friendly and helps each other out? That’s like Doane Grant Thornton. Except here we’re all professionals and there isn’t a mayor or a general store. What we’re trying to say is that we’re a large and growing professional services firm that still feels like a community. We employ over 3000 people across Canada, and we truly care about our colleagues, our clients and the communities where we work and live. That’s what’s most important to us. We’re building a thriving organization that’s purpose driven and still want to remember what your favourite milkshake flavour is.

Our Charity and Not-for-Profit team in the GTA is growing and we are seeking talented Senior Accountants to join the team. Working side by side with a strong team of well-respected accounting professionals focused on the needs of the not-for-profit and charity sector, you will be engaged in a wide variety of interesting matters, going beyond auditing to be an advisor to an excellent range of clients on financial reporting but also other aspects of their organization.

As a Senior Accountant, Charity and Not-for-Profit your responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing solutions to our clients on current business and financial conditions
  2. Planning, preparation and execution of financial statements with appropriate note disclosures
  3. Providing assurance services such as audits, review engagements and notice to reader engagements as well as tax services
  4. Working with clients under ASPE and ASNPO reporting frameworks in the not-for-profit and charity sector (government funded organizations, associations, private clubs, foundations, educational and religious institutions among others)
  5. Leading audit engagements, including providing guidance to assist management in implementing future improvements.
  6. Analysis and completion of corporate tax returns (T3010, T1044 and T2)
  7. Working closely with clients to create long-standing relationships and providing exceptional client service year over year
  8. Busier effort required in the mid May to mid June period

Our Charity and Not-for-Profit team offers continual professional development as well as long term growth opportunities to evolve your career. If you are an individual who enjoys sharing strategy and best practices for growth by collaborating internally and connecting externally with individuals and not-for-profit and charitable organizations, then this opportunity is ideal for you.
