MaKami College is seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Calgary. Reporting to the Controller, this role will collaborate with various internal departments on all aspects of accounting and finance, including financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, external audit support, internal controls, and ad hoc projects. Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Support external audits by preparing working papers and responding to auditor requests.
  • Assist in budget development and monitoring, providing insights on variances.
  • Ensure strong internal controls are in place and continuously improve financial processes.
  • Support grant applications and reporting requirements.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and projects as required.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Recently designated CPA or undesignated with 10+ years of full-cycle experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience; experience in a non-profit or education environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting principles and reporting standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, LOOKUPs, and data analysis.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations and working with external auditors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and team-oriented mindset.
