Overview

The Security Supervisor is responsible for directing the day-to-day operation of the Safety and Security department, providing protection and communication with hotel guests and employees. He/she is also responsible for patrolling hotel premises to maintain security, detect and report fire, security and safety hazards and/or violations of Highgate Hotel rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise security staff.
  2. Assign shifts and designate duties.
  3. Conduct training for the security staff.
  4. Supervise investigations.
  5. Arrange and implement procedures for emergency situations such as fire, bomb threats, hurricane, etc.
  6. Be an active member of safety committee.
  7. Review payroll for department.
  8. Review daily activity log at the beginning of each shift.
  9. Check identification of visitors and employees, if applicable.
  10. Check and document packages.
  11. Open secured areas for authorized personnel.
  12. Complete incident/accident reports in a clear and concise manner.
  13. Maintain daily activity log.
  14. Conduct assigned tour of building.
  15. Investigate all reported thefts, accidents and security complaints.
  16. Assist in all fire and/or emergency situations.
  17. Provide escort to guests and/or employees as necessary.
  18. Respond to all types of alarms.
  19. Monitor TV camera, if applicable.
  20. Administer Heimlich Maneuver and or First Aid/CPR as necessary.
  21. Conduct investigations relative to property losses, guest and employee accidents and illnesses, and crimes against the hotel.
  22. Check packages and document all deliveries.
  23. Patrol the area to ensure they are secure and free of unauthorized persons and disturbances.
  24. Provide escorts to persons carrying money, or other requests.
  25. Issue and inventory pagers, radio equipment and keys on a daily basis, if applicable.
  26. Conduct basic First Aid training.

Qualifications

  1. Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  2. Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  3. Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  4. Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  5. Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  6. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  7. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
  8. Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  9. Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  10. Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  11. Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  12. Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  13. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  14. Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  15. Perform other duties as requested by management.
  16. High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field required.
  17. At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  18. Previous supervisory responsibility preferred.
  19. Physical requirements: Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
  20. Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  21. Ability to stand during entire shift.
  22. Ability to climb and descend stairways and run.
  23. Ability to physically deter individuals who pose a threat to employee and/or guests.
