A.S.P. is looking for a Respite Security Specialist Supervisor, who takes pride in providing a safe and secure environment and customer services in the most courteous manner. We seek an experienced police or military personnel for security specialist positions in City of Toronto Respite, Refugee, and Shelter locations. Applicants must be honest, confident, and socially aware individuals with a responsible attitude and the ability to assess situations and react quickly. They should be resilient, tenacious, and able to remain calm in what can sometimes be hostile situations. Strong leadership, confidence, and communication skills are important, with the ability to work alone or as part of a professional team dealing with demanding challenges.

What you will do:

  1. Provide Security Guard Services at the City of Toronto Building, through operating Security Systems, monitoring, and patrolling.
  2. Monitor and patrol assigned areas, including responding to routine, emergency, and security & law enforcement calls.
  3. Act as an ambassador of the client site by providing customer service, responding to public inquiries, and performing guard tours along designated routes. Assist in the movement of visitors and staff.
  4. Manage and lead a team of Security Specialists.
  5. Maintain an open line of communication with the client and A.S.P. Incorporated.
  6. Observe, investigate, and act on possible breaches of security, fire and safety hazards, illegal entry, theft, and malfunction or interruption of utilities, informing designated authorities in the event of an emergency.
  7. Document all security incidents into a clear, concise, complete, and accurate security incident report.
  8. Activate fire alarm and safety systems and assist in evacuation procedures. Escort designated authorities, police, fire, and ambulance personnel to emergency locations.
  9. Enforce the Trespass to Property Act, including physically removing individuals found trespassing or engaging in criminal acts on premises or assigned property.
  10. Control access and screen unauthorized persons, physically removing individuals found trespassing or engaging in criminal acts or breaching policies. If required, legally arrest individuals and surrender them to Police as soon as possible.
  11. Record and maintain a logbook of daily activities, unusual or special occurrences, and issuance of equipment to staff.
  12. Perform duties such as open-up and lock-down procedures, bomb threat searches, and security/life safety equipment inspections and testing.
  13. Perform emergency response duties in accordance with the Emergency Response Manual, including escorting designated authorities, police, fire, and ambulance personnel to emergency locations.
  14. Receive and record complaints, conduct investigations, prepare incident reports, and conduct follow-up investigations.
  15. Liaise with Shelter Management to communicate any issues and challenges to site operations and report any health and safety concerns or fire and life safety concerns.

Who you are:

  1. 1 year of Canadian Police or Canadian Armed Forces experience.
  2. Graduate from a recognized community college in the field of law enforcement, security administration, or a related field, including justice studies, social service, mental health, and/or healthcare.
  3. Minimum of three (3) years of experience within the North American security industry and experience in a related security function.
  4. Minimum of two (2) years of experience within North America in a related security supervisory function.
  5. Asset to have a G class Driver's License & a clean driver's abstract and be over 25 years old to qualify (Mobile Security experience is an asset).
  6. Hands-on experience with making or assisting arrests.
  7. Eligible to work in Canada.
  8. Strong communication and observation skills.
  9. Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
  10. Ability to make quick and informed decisions.
  11. Licensed by the Province of Ontario as a registered Security Guard and must maintain the license for the duration of employment.
  12. Smart Serve, De-Escalation, SCDT, Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  13. Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, Codes, and legislation, including the Criminal Code, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code, and WHMIS.
