Position Overview:
Banbury Crossroads School seeks a passionate and innovative Secondary Math Teacher for grades 7–12. This role involves designing and implementing a dynamic math curriculum in a self-directed learning environment that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The ideal candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm to the classroom, inspiring students to explore and understand the complex world around them.

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, Develop, and Execute Lessons: Design and deliver lessons aligned with the Alberta Programs of Study, employing varied teaching methods to support diverse learning styles.
  2. Foster a Balanced Classroom Environment: Cultivate an atmosphere that promotes curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for mathematic discovery.
  3. Guide Scientific Inquiry Projects: Lead students in self-directed projects that deepen their understanding of scientific methods and concepts. Encourage students to ask questions, seek answers, and present findings.
  4. Enhance Interdisciplinary Learning: Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create integrated learning experiences that connect math with other areas of study.
  5. Assess Student Progress: Evaluate student understanding through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to foster growth.
  6. Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Regularly update parents and guardians on student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying growth areas.
  7. Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on advancements in mathematic education and self-directed learning methodologies.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education is required; a Master’s degree is an asset.
  2. Additional qualifications in Math or a related discipline are preferred.
  3. International Baccalaureate experience (Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme) is an asset but not required.
  4. Valid teaching certification for Alberta is required.
  5. Proven experience teaching Math to secondary students, with a strong understanding of pedagogical theories and practices in self-directed learning environments.
  6. Experience teaching in a special education learning environment is an asset.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs.
  8. Strong commitment to professional growth and collaboration within a dynamic educational team.
