Position SummaryReporting to the Superintendent of Education (Curriculum) and the Secondary School Principal, the Secondary De streamed Math Consultant will support student achievement in de-streamed Grade 9 mathematics and assist with the transition of students from Grade 7 and 8 into high school math programming. This role will be based in a secondary school and will require travel throughout Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk.
Qualifications- Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
- Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience in the Intermediate/Senior divisions.
- Basic qualifications in Intermediate/Senior divisions and Additional Qualifications in Mathematics.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in teaching mathematics across multiple grade levels.
- Experience working collaboratively with educators to monitor student progress and support improvement goals.
- In-depth knowledge of the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (2020 for Grades 1–8, 2021 for Grade 9).
- Strong understanding of instructional strategies and assessment practices that inform learning.
- Familiarity with Ministry of Education directives and policies.
- Experience with evidence-based practices in math education, including Thinking Classrooms, High-Impact Instructional Strategies, and Essential Practices.
- Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with inclusive instructional frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Differentiated Instruction (DI), and Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogy (CRRP).
Role OverviewThe Secondary De streamed Math Consultant plays a key role in improving student achievement in Grade 9 math and ensuring smooth academic and social transitions from Grades 7–8 to high school. The coach will work closely with educators and students, especially those requiring additional support, to enhance engagement, confidence, and academic success in math.
Duties And Responsibilities- Provide direct support for student learning in Grade 9 math classrooms.
- Collaborate with Intermediate (Grades 7–9) educators to implement high-impact instructional strategies aligned with school and board goals.
- Facilitate in-class support to strengthen math instruction and student understanding.
- Share effective practices, strategies, and resources with educators.
- Work with classroom teachers, Resource, and Special Education staff to identify student strengths, needs, and appropriate accommodations/interventions.
- Provide direct support to students using early intervention and high-impact strategies.
- Coordinate and participate in transition activities, including:
- Transition meetings
- Pathway planning and de-streamed course selection
- High school tours
- myBlueprint
- Grade 8 to 9 information nights and events
- Build connections between students and school staff, including Secondary Student Success Teachers.
- Provide targeted support for students in Grades 7–10, focusing on culturally responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation.
- Support transition planning for Indigenous students moving from First Nations schools to BHNCDSB.
- Attend Ministry sessions and share best practices, data, and results related to student math achievement.
