This job opening is limited to residents living within 25 kilometres of Hay River.
The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.
Fieldwork demands the use of boats, ATVs, and aircraft, as well as physically strenuous tasks such as carrying over 15 lbs of gear while hiking through unbroken terrain, standing for over 7.5 hours, and working in awkward positions. Some projects involve heavy lifting and extended workdays exceeding 10 hours. The role requires extensive travel, with up to 80% of the time spent away from home, leading to long hours and extended separation from family.
To be considered for this role, you must have the completion of a season of forestry data collection experience and/or be enrolled in a natural resources related program.
Additional Requirements: A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
