Core Geosciences Services Inc. (CoreGeo) is a Yukon-owned environmental consulting company based in Whitehorse, YT. For the past 10 years, we have supported projects across Yukon and BC, working with local governments, First Nations, and industry clients in mining, infrastructure, renewable energy, contaminated sites, and water resources.

Our ethically driven team brings a wealth of expertise across scientific, technical, and engineering fields. We specialize in baseline assessments, environmental monitoring, geochemical characterization (ML/ARD), hydrogeology, contaminated sites, Indigenous and socio-cultural relations, and third-party senior technical reviews.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Intermediate Aquatic Scientist (RPBio or PBiol) with 5+ years of experience in environmental services in Western Canada. This full-time, permanent position is based in our Whitehorse office.

The ideal candidate has in-depth expertise in aquatic biology, including fisheries science, habitat offsetting and restoration, effects assessment, and regulatory frameworks across freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments. A strong understanding of local environmental regulations and their application to diverse industry projects is essential. The successful candidate with join a team that works together to foster a collaborative culture with a focus on communication, mentorship, and opportunity.

Key Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in aquatic biology, environmental science, limnology, or a related field
  • Experience with environmental assessments, permitting, species at risk, and baseline monitoring programs
  • Expertise in fisheries and aquatic biology, habitat assessment, with additional experience in water quality and lower trophic levels considered an asset
  • Proficiency in data analysis, including advanced Excel and/or functional skills in R
  • Experience with electrofishing, including a certification, is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Your capabilities

  • Experience and availability for regular field work locally and in remote and challenging northern locations
  • Familiarity with biological field methods, such as minnow trapping, beach seining, fish identification, benthic invertebrate sampling, sediment sampling, and the use of tools such as water quality meters
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Independent worker with strong task ownership skills and ability to monitor your own time and meet project schedule and budget expectations
  • Strong collaboration and mentorship skills, with the ability to foster a positive team environment, support the development of junior staff, and actively learn from others.
  • An interest in business development and proposal writing
  • Strong professional communication skills, including excellent technical writing skills for a variety of audiences
  • Accreditation or eligibility for immediate accreditation with the College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist, or equivalent accreditation
  • Experience acquired in the Yukon is considered an asset
