Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and the general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics and Education Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Providing crisis intervention and one-on-one support to students and their parents when requested or as they may occur.
  2. Providing resource navigation to mental health and/or community agencies for students and/or their families (i.e., Naandwechige-Gamig Health Centre, Nadmadwin Mental Health, Aasgaabwitwindwaa Binoojiinhik Wiin ni Gshkiwewziwaat and/or other service providers).
  3. Provide attendance counselling services for the school through various means (home visits, collaborating with community partners, communicating with parents).
  4. Maintaining appropriate and confidential records involving direct and indirect attendance consultations with students and their parents.
  5. Promote the physical, emotional, and social development of students.
  6. Collaborate with staff in a multitude of areas as they relate to student health and well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work degree with registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers.
  2. Training in clinical interviewing and evidence-informed interventions with children.
  3. Experience providing various treatment modalities to children (i.e., CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT strategies).
  4. Experience in adapting treatment modalities that are culturally relevant and identity affirming.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with other professionals.
  6. Ability to work in a team environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Experience working in an educational setting, and knowledge and appreciation of Anishinabek Culture, Traditions, Language, and History is considered an asset.
  8. Provide a cover letter, resume and three (3) current work-related references.
