School Counsellor/Social Skills Strategist

Permanent, Full-Time

Mulgrave is one of Canada’s leading independent co-educational pre-K – 12 day schools, serving the North Shore of Vancouver. We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking a School Counsellor/Social Skills Strategist to start in August 2025.

The successful candidate will join a three-person schoolwide counselling team and the Learning Strategist team. While the candidate will work collaboratively to support the general needs across the four divisions of our PK-12 school (Early Years, Junior School, Middle School, and Senior School), they will have direct responsibility for supporting our Junior and Middle School (grade 1-9) students’ needs both from a counselling and social skills development through the Learning Strategist team.

We are looking for a dynamic and relationship-oriented individual who has a passion and experience working with junior and middle school students. The candidate will have proven skills in supporting a diverse student population and demonstrate strong intercultural skills.

The appointee will provide class-based instruction, the development of executive functioning skills and support social skills groups in both the Junior and Middle Schools. The appointee will also support one-to-one and small group counselling for students.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to the following:

  • Advance students’ educational achievement through executive functioning skill development and goal setting, assisting with the development of students’ learning plans as well as activities that promote effective work and study habits.
  • Develop and run social skills groups for students (JR, MS, SS).
  • Present instructional/informational programs to groups of students and teachers.
  • A small caseload of 1 to 1 student support.
  • Attend consultation meetings with counselling colleagues (monthly with Psychologist, weekly with team and as needed for welfare/wellbeing concerns).
  • Adhere to the ethical standards of the counselling profession and practice following federal, provincial, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families, including child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights and privacy.
  • Use appropriate assessment and diagnostic procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counselling services.
  • Assist parents and teachers in understanding and responding to the developmental levels of students, acting as a liaison and resource to all parties.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to other support services and community resources.
  • Ongoing communication, both verbally and in writing, with staff members, students, parents, and outside community agencies and partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Master’s degree in school counselling and/or counselling psychology.

Preferred Experience and Qualities:

  • Experience counselling in a school-based setting.
  • Certified to teach in BC.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the facilitation of large group instructional and/or informational sessions.

Compensation:

The base annual salary for this position is competitive and falls within the range of $90,000.00 - $125,000.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, and relevant experience in accordance with BC labour laws and company policies.
