Job Title: PLANT ACCOUNTANT Department: Accounting

FLSA Status: Exempt Location: ALL

Supervisor: General Manager; VP Finance

Date: July 2014 Approval: VP Finance

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Plant Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and finance functions of a Site as well as other administrative functions that may be required.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, he/she has authority to take action and make decisions. The assignment of work or delegation of responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results. Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled.


Functional Responsibilities

  1. Prepare preliminary Site financial statements and related reporting for presentation to Regional Controller.
  2. Financial analysis and preparation of various analytical reports.
  3. Support the updating of the fixed asset database. Prepare documentations relating to additions, disposals and depreciation and reconciliation with General Ledger.
  4. Review Standard Costs and ensure cost system is accurate and current, including the cumulative order close procedure.
  5. Assist in the maintenance and integrity of the Standard Cost system as assigned.
  6. Analyze actual costs to standard costs and make the appropriate recommendations.
  7. Manage the job close procedure within the required time frame in order to ensure accurate and timely information.
  8. Prepare and post Journal Entries.
  9. Preparation of all weekly and monthly accruals for Site.
  10. Analysis of monthly variances as reported in the financial statements.
  11. Administer and control A/R and credit/collection for the Site.
  12. Support internal/external/government audits.
  13. Monthly balance sheet reconciliation.
  14. Review all Accounts Payable entries and confirm batches.
  15. Preparation of various government reports as required.
  16. Oversee the accounting and reconciliation of the Site payroll, including year-end.
  17. Assist in preparing required year-end schedules.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Managerial Responsibilities

  1. May be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of Site Accounting functions & personnel.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  1. Regular contact with the Regional Controller regarding accounting procedures and costing issues.
  2. Regular contact with the Sales Manager regarding credit and collection and aged finished goods inventory.
  3. Regular contact with Head Office Accounting regarding accounting procedures and issues.
  4. Maintain contact with professional societies and keep current on latest best practices.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regular use of computers, telephones & misc. office equipment.
  2. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  3. Ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Little physical effort required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Degree (4yr) in business or accounting and 1-3 yrs experience in a MRP environment; or 2 year Degree and 5-7 yrs experience in a MRP environment.

  1. Computer literate.
  2. Solid understanding of business fundamentals.
  3. Strong analytical skills.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  5. Good interpersonal skills.
  6. Detail oriented.
