Job description

Our client seeks a seasoned Business Architect to lead enterprise-level design activities supporting the modernization of a core business system. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep experience in business architecture frameworks, data modelling, stakeholder engagement, and high-profile transformation initiatives. You’ll play a key role in shaping architectural direction and guiding the delivery of business and IT alignment through robust frameworks and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop enterprise architecture deliverables and artifacts in alignment with Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes and practices.
  2. Utilize frameworks such as the Zachman Framework to design business, information, application, technology, and security architectures.
  3. Analyze information relevant to business architecture and conduct focus group workshops with stakeholders.
  4. Model business processes and capabilities at the enterprise and core business levels, including capability models and architectural solutions.
  5. Provide project management for large-scale, complex, and high-profile IT initiatives, ensuring adherence to standard methodologies.
  6. Ensure project deliverables meet clients' business requirements, budget, and timelines while maintaining compliance with OPS project management frameworks.
  7. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and analyze business requirements, integrating IT-enabled opportunities to address business needs.
  8. Facilitate communication, negotiation, and consensus-building among diverse stakeholders.
  9. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and issues throughout project lifecycles.
  10. Overcome resistance to change and capitalize on supportive forces at all project stages.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  1. Demonstrated experience in crafting enterprise architecture deliverables compliant with Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes and practices.
  2. Proficiency in frameworks such as the Zachman Framework, TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), or other relevant frameworks.
  3. Deep understanding of diverse business environments, with a focus on government settings, including familiarity with key business drivers in these contexts.
  4. Understanding of data modelling principles and techniques, including entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) and data flow diagrams.

General Skills:

  1. Mastery of various methods, techniques, and tools for business architecture, including but not limited to business functional modelling, service lifecycle modelling, business event modelling, business process mapping, and value chain analysis.
  2. Proven ability to identify and analyze business requirements, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  3. Knowledge and experience in leveraging information technology to integrate solutions and identify IT-enabled opportunities that address business pressures and needs effectively.
  4. Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, and consensus-building skills essential for effective stakeholder management and project execution.
  5. Demonstrated experience as a business architect, adept at modelling business structures at both enterprise and core business levels for medium to large organizations.
  6. Ability to advocate for and promote I&IT project management best practices, ensuring adherence to standard methodologies for successful project delivery.
  7. Proactive identification of potential risk events and issues, with the ability to develop mitigating strategies to circumvent challenges.
  8. Aptitude in articulating and prioritizing issues and risks at senior executive levels, recommending mitigation strategies, and employing effective change management strategies throughout project lifecycles.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Experience working within the public sector or large corporate environments, with an understanding of the unique challenges and constraints faced in these settings.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards.
