The successful candidate of this split position will be required to work as a Road Patrolperson for 5 months (approximately November to April) and as a Labourer, Roads for the remaining 7 months (approximately April to November) each year.

Reporting to the Supervisor(s) of Operations (Roads/Traffic), the Road Patrolperson is responsible for:

  • identifying and accurately reporting all hazardous situations and/or road deficiencies and conditions;
  • securing and repairing identified deficiencies including minor ploughing and/or sand/salt;
  • general traffic control for both stationary and rolling road repair operations;
  • picking up litter, garbage and/or road debris;
  • ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
  • providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public.

As a Labourer, Roads, the responsibilities include:

  • operating and maintaining various equipment, vehicles and tools;
  • flagging and traffic control;
  • installation of traffic signs and detours;
  • repairing and/or installing Town fences;
  • concrete repairs and installation;
  • assisting with roadway patrolling, maintenance, repairs and/or clean up;
  • tree trimming and/or removal;
  • snow clearing and application of salt;
  • providing excellent customer service.

Who You Are

Our Operational Services team is looking for a self-motivated, solutions-oriented team member. You foster a collaborative team environment among co-workers, and work well both independently and as part of a team. You demonstrate sound judgment and are knowledgeable about workplace safety regulations.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

  • community college and/or trade school courses in carpentry, cement work or a related discipline;
  • three (3) years directly related work experience with road patrolling and inspections;
  • a valid Class "DZ" Driver’s Licence maintained in good standing;
  • Winter Maintenance Operations training;
  • current certification in C.P.R. (Level A) and Emergency First Aid;
  • physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour.

Salary Range/Hourly Rate: $29.38 - $36.74 (Road Patrolperson), $27.49 - $34.39 (Labourer, Roads)

Hours: Flex hours, including days, afternoons and nights. Forty (40) hours per week.
