POSITION FUNCTION

Assist in the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings and signs, and removal of graffiti.

KEY DUTIES

1. Assist with installation, maintenance, and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings and symbols, signs, signposts, pavement markers, and bollards.
2. Excavate, mix, and place concrete for installation of signposts.
3. Clean and prepare surfaces for paint application.
4. Mark out layout prior to installation.
5. Place and collect cones and signs in work area.
6. Operate a vehicle and trailer for transport of equipment and materials.
7. Assist with the operation of various paint application and removal equipment.
8. Use various hand tools such as hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, and post straightener.
9. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns, and other equipment.
10. Load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift.
11. Remove or paint over graffiti from City property.
12. Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor. Problems are referred to supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort: Lift and move heavy equipment and materials (often); perform repetitious tasks such as scraping, brushing, and shovelling (frequent).

Mental Effort: Normal.

Visual/Auditory Effort: Normal.

Work Environment: Work outside in all weather conditions (continuous); work in close proximity to moving equipment and traffic (frequent); work from heights (often); exposure to equipment noise (often); work irregular hours (premium item).

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification: Grade 10; current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

Experience: 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER: May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
