Job Overview:
The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to meet the physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs of patients. Working under the Patient Care Manager, the Staff Nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide high-quality care in line with Providence Health Care’s values and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment & Care Planning: Assess patient needs and develop, implement, and revise care plans accordingly.
- Education: Provide individual and group education to patients and families on health promotion and self-care.
- Collaboration: Work with healthcare teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Support & Mentorship: Share knowledge and demonstrate procedures to support team development.
- Adherence to Standards: Ensure care practices align with BCCNM standards and organizational protocols.
What You Bring
Education:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Experience in Residential Care, Mental Health, or Medicine-Psychiatric Units.
Skills and Abilities:
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures.
- Strong teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Excellent decision-making and analytical abilities.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and managing relationships.
- Physical ability to perform job duties.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Proficient with relevant equipment.
- Ability to teach, assess learning needs, and lead patient/family group sessions.
- Capable of providing clinical guidance and direction.

Your Day to Day
- Monitors patient/resident progress: Evaluates outcomes, reassesses if goals are not met, and modifies the plan of care based on evaluations.
- Direct nursing interventions: Provides care during crisis and life-threatening situations.
- Documentation: Records observations, assessments, progress, and discharge plans in both manual and computerized environments.
- Patient/family education: Identifies learning needs, provides educational materials, leads teaching sessions, and makes referrals to other resources.
- Team collaboration: Directs and supports staff such as Care Attendants and Licensed Practical Nurses, ensuring effective teamwork and task delegation.
- Nursing orientation and education: Participates in nursing orientation, shares clinical knowledge with nursing staff and students, and attends educational programs as required.
- Policy and practice improvement: Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/resident care policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Supports nursing research: Identifies areas for clinical nursing research, adapts research to practice, and engages in research activities to enhance nursing practice.
- Discharge planning: Facilitates discharge plans, liaises with families, and coordinates with community resource agencies.
- Advocacy: Advocates for patients/residents, ensuring their rights to dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information are protected.
