Description

Skyworks Solutions is seeking a University student for an RF Systems Engineering Co-Op position for its Radio Systems Architecture Team at its location in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This is a 12 month Co-Op which starts in May 2025 and runs until the end of April 2026.

This candidate will join a diverse team of RFIC, Analog IC and Module designers assisting in the concept, design, integration, and delivery of complex multichip, multi-technology RFIC-based wireless module solutions for Wi-Fi applications. This position will provide the student with a well-rounded introduction to the RF electronic component design environment and suits individuals seeking a career in the field of RF and analog integrated circuits.

Skyworks is a world class, vertically integrated company with manufacturing capabilities in RF semiconductors, acoustic filters, packaging, and test. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of product realization and work with an extended cross-site team to validate and deliver high-performance RF products from concept to high volume markets.

Responsibilities

The student will support various RF Systems Engineering tasks such as:

  1. Automation of testing of RFICs and multichip modules
  2. Perform RF tests, RF evaluations, and summarize the results then present them to our RF Systems and RF Design engineers
  3. Development and characterization of WLAN waveforms
  4. Simulating EVM and backfitting simulation results to measured data for various PAs and FEMs
  5. Evaluating the performance of WLAN RF front end modules including measuring amplitude distortion, phase distortion, out-of-band emissions, PA distortion as characterized by Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), Low noise amplifier (LNA) noise figure, and LNA linearity

Requirements

  1. Must be currently enrolled in an EE or Engineering Physics Bachelor or Master’s degree program, and must be returning to school after the completion of this Co-Op (will not consider graduated students)
  2. Self-starter and enjoy being hands on and comfortable scripting in MATLAB
  3. Requires a background in RF/microwave circuits, including knowledge of fundamental RF parameters, RF testing and RF test equipment
  4. Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Excel, Power Point and data organization
  5. Knowledge in RF parameters (insertion loss, return loss, harmonics, IMD, IIP2/3, VSWR, NF, etc.) is an asset
  6. Background in RF and Microwave design
  7. Excellent communication and presentation skills
  8. Experience in using RF equipment such as oscilloscope, VNA, VSA, spectrum analyzer, RF sources
  9. RFIC design and simulation experience will be a plus
  10. Working familiarity with C/C++ or Python will be an asset but is not mandatory

The typical pay range for an intern is currently CAD $25.00 - $44.00 per hour. Starting base pay will depend on level of education and the ultimate job duties and requirements.
