About the Role:
The Restaurant Design Manager will manage the team of Restaurant Design Specialists. They are responsible for the floor plan design, review and distribution of design project requests for new restaurant openings and remodels. The Restaurant Design Manager will also design floor plans for new and relocating restaurants in some of the markets that we serve. The Restaurant Design Manager will be responsible for the review of all new location and relocation plans completed by the in-house Restaurant Design Specialists, as well as leading and implementing regional Design projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Daily management of assigned SMO/BD territories within Canada to be a single point person. Responsibilities include receiving and logging all design requests and facilitating day to day communications with SMO/BD(s) and Franchisees. A tracking log of work pending status will be maintained at all times that indicates all pending drawings that need to be completed as well as when that work was completed and sent to the field. At the end of each business day, work completed by the Restaurant Design Manager as well as those by the specialists will be documented in SUBS, identifying which jobs were completed so that they can be tracked accordingly in the company’s data systems.
- Utilize the current design software (REVIT) to create site specific floor plans that adhere to the company’s determined design and décor criteria for new locations and relocations. The Restaurant Design Manager will maintain an acceptable turnaround time on all floor plan requests and if unable to achieve an acceptable turnaround they will seek assistance through provided resources within the department.
- The Restaurant Design Manager will manage the Design Specialists on all daily activities. This includes the review all of the completed full sets of plans for new locations and relocations produced by the in-house Design Specialists.
- Work with Global design team and/or 3rd Party Design Agency to implement new projects across the region, such as new design concept, new operating model, implementation of new equipment or technology, etc.
- The Restaurant Design Manager will be available to their assigned SMO/BD(s) and Franchisees to assist with any questions that may arise during the planning and subsequent building process as it relates to the design and décor of the restaurant in question.
- Gather and maintain documentation of all requirements and options for new locations and remodels unique to the Restaurant Design Specialist's assigned regions. Upload documentation to a team shared folder and/or Sharepoint team site.
- Provide a streamlined process for new, relocation, non-trad and remodel designs.
- Create and manage a Canadian template for drawings including creating and implementing families, specification sheets for equipment and vendor information.
- Manage and delegate new project requests, reviews and revisions of drawings.
- Implement a best practices document for Subway Canada designs to ensure brand standards are adhered to and there is clarity on what is approved and acceptable.
- Work alongside IPC to ensure that information on drawings is consistent with our supply chain messaging and stock volume.
- Work with the development team to create real estate proposal packages for newly proposed sites.
- Work with Sai Systems to ensure that the process for the offshore projects is clear and concise and that any new design changes are being conveyed. Ensure that timelines are adhered to and that project queries are answered in a timely manner to avoid delays.
- Have consistent meetings with the Global Standards Team to confirm that designs are following to the brand requirements and intentions.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in interior design, architecture or graphic design preferred.
- Certificate of Revit/AutoCAD training would be a plus.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in interior design or architecture required. Subway or QSR design experience a plus.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience required.
- Thorough knowledge in the areas of architectural design.
- Expert knowledge of 3D design software. Essential to communicate design concepts. Required software expertise in Revit and AutoCAD. SketchUp, 3ds Max are a plus.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the company in a tactful and diplomatic way.
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Coach and guide subordinate team members.
- Travel requirement: less than 10% of the time.
