The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) allows students of all nations to learn in an environment of First Nations cultures and values. Under the direction of the Director of Autonomy, the Research and Policy Writer will work with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and Senior Indigenous Strategist to coordinate research related to the creation story of FNUniv and the historical vision contributing to a strategic guiding document that embodies traditional Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and doing to support academic independence. This position is responsible for research, documentation, analysis, and development of written policies and procedures that will support a comprehensive organizational framework and roadmap for autonomous academic systems.

Duties:

• Conduct extensive research, interviews, data collection, transcription, and documentation related to FNUniv’s creation story and the historical vision of First Nations Elders and leaders for post-secondary educational autonomy.
• Develop and update policies that align with institutional priorities, strategic goals, and objectives related to autonomy.
• Research and document other models of Indigenous autonomy and explore the options and viable pathways for FNUniv accreditation, quality assurance, portability of FNUniv degrees and credentials, and additional funding sources.
• Assist with organizing and participating in gatherings to seek input, report, and communicate progress with FNUniv Elders, faculty, staff, and students.
• Collaborate with various units such as University Relations, Finance, Administration (IT and HR), Academic (Office of the Registrar), and contribute to the development of an institution-wide strategic plan and operational framework focused on autonomy.
• Participate in relevant internal and external committees and working groups.
• Assist with meetings by developing agendas, taking minutes, and conducting evaluations as required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree; minimum of three (3) years related experience, preferably in a university environment. Familiarity and knowledge of First Nations cultural protocols and traditions is essential. Experience working with diverse groups of organizations and peoples, particularly Elders, students, faculty, and First Nations communities and organizations. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Salary Range: APT Grade 4 position ($61,265 – 82,416)
