JOB TITLE: Research Support Officer, Emergency Management

DEPARTMENT: Fire & Emergency Services

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

JOB STATUS & DURATION: Temporary, 4 months

HOURS OF WORK: 35-hour workweek

LOCATION: Hybrid Model – when working onsite, you will report to the location of WPFC FIRE DEPT HQ

HOURLY RATE: $21.45 Step 1 $22.40 Step 2

POSTING DATE: January 24, 2025

CLOSING DATE: February 7, 2025

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Management, the successful candidate will assist the Emergency Management Office in various functions related to the development and implementation of emergency management initiatives, including, but not limited to corporate preparedness, public education and emergency planning.

  1. Research and develop procedural or public education initiatives to further enhance the readiness of the City's Emergency Operations Centre.
  2. Participate in Public Education engagements by promoting personal preparedness to residents/community groups/schools.
  3. Develop and manage new and existing public education materials.
  4. Support other work and initiatives undertaken by the Brampton Emergency Management Office in relations to the emergency management program.

Mandatory Requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a post-secondary or graduate program in emergency management, community safety or related field.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  1. Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, well organized, and able to prioritize complex tasks and meet critical deadlines.
  2. Strong analytical skills for complex problem solving.
  3. Knowledge and experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  4. Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Fast learner, capable to work in a rapidly changing environment with deadlines.
  7. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
