The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

Dr. John Ogrodniczuk and the HeadsUpGuys team are raising the bar for men's mental health care in Canada and around the world. Since launching the website in 2015, HeadsUpGuys has become a highly respected international resource for men seeking help for their struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts. With more than 10,000 weekly visitors from across the globe, HeadsUpGuys continues to grow its media platform, offering multiple points of connection to men who might otherwise keep their struggles hidden or feel alone.

HeadsUpGuys is looking to expand its team. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, innovative, and empathic person to help HeadsupGuys maintain its role as the world’s leading men’s mental health resource.

This position is for a staff member to assist with a wide variety of web editing tasks, web publishing, digital marketing, and developing content that focuses on various topics relating to men’s mental health and suicidality. Additionally, the staff member will contribute to the expansion of a newly implemented Self-Check suite of screening tools and associated articles. The staff member will also attend various community events involving HeadsUpGuys.

The staff member will also work on creating content for a new suite of online self-help articles and courses. Content will be implemented in WordPress and having experience with it (or other content management systems), as well as advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS, is required.

Excellent writing skills and knowledge of psychology (and treatment options for mental health difficulties, like depression) are required.


Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will report directly to Dr. John Ogrodniczuk and may receive instructions from senior personnel. This position would interact with the vulnerable population and a criminal records check is required.

Work Performed

  • Design and implement research projects to increase the capacity and effectiveness of the HeadsUpGuys platform, which involves keeping up-to-date on developments on mental health issues, policy changes, novel studies, etc.

  • Writing and design of Qualtrics survey, making decisions on survey logic and formatting and overseeing data collection, cleaning, analysis and interpretation of data.

  • Set up research-related records and databases and troubleshoot or escalate issues as they arise.

  • Plan and implement study participant recruitment.

  • Analyze research data and prepare reports based on these analyses and contribute to the preparation of ethics and grant applications.

  • Create web content incorporating latest research and developments in the area of mental health issues, using WordPress visual and text editor modes.

  • Expand Self-Check suite, inclusive of developing new web pages for self-check screening tools.

  • Attend community events involving HeadsUpGuys.

  • Through maintained expertise in men’s mental health issues, create and revise content for HeadsUp Guys’ Self-Guided courses.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors made in this position can impede the progress of the project and cause adverse relationships with partners, decision makers, and funding agencies and may compromise the positive promotion of the project. Errors or incorrect decisions could potentially result in delays in completing aspects of the project or compromise the quality of the project.

Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator will receive work direction from the PI, Dr. John Ogrodniczuk, who will provide daily general supervision. The Research Coordinator will be expected to exercise independent judgement in carrying out familiar tasks; new or unusual problems are reported to the PI.

Supervision Given
This position may involve supervision of volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with WordPress (or other content management system), as well as advanced knowledge of HTML, JS, CSS, is required.

  • Experience in developing mental health communications for general audiences is required.

  • Knowledge of mental health promotion, as well as mental health research is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in knowledge translation is preferred.

  • Knowledge of website usability and user-centered design is an asset.

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (or similar tools) is an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact, discretion and sensitivity.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with equal proficiency in inter-professional communication and communications with individuals with lived experience of mental health difficulties.

  • Effective organizational skills and ability to maintain attention to detail.

  • Ability to solve problems and be self-directed.
