Job description

This position will employ a research assistant/co-ordinator to assist with clinical studies led by Professor Sandy Shultz within the faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services, Vancouver Island University. These studies will focus on identifying biomarkers and assessing treatments in patients with mild brain injuries due to a range of causes (e.g., domestic violence, motor vehicle, sports, accidents).


Duties:

  • Assist with ethics and other administrative duties
  • Recruit participants and collate data from the Alfred Emergency Department
  • Test participants using cognitive and neuropsychological protocols
  • Collect blood samples from participants
  • Maintain research databases
  • Communicate and work effectively in a team/group environment
  • Engage with patients and test participants
  • Prepare ethics applications and complete other related administrative tasks
  • Speak and write in English
  • Flexible hours to accommodate participant recruitment

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior research experience and related degree (e.g., Honours, Masters, PhD)
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate in a team setting
  • Experience preparing and editing documents with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to undergo additional training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Neuropsychological testing experience
  • Venepuncture training and experience
  • Experience recruiting and testing participants
  • Data entry and database maintenance
  • Experience with human ethics
  • Basic wet laboratory experience (e.g., use of pipettes and centrifuge)
  • Driver's license
