This is a part-time position 15-20 hours/week
Starting salary is between $5365.42 -$6132.25 at 1.0 FTE based on education and experience
Successful candidate must reside in the Okanagan region.
JOB SUMMARY:
The research coordinator will provide direct support to the UBCO Director of the CSSCF related various research and scholarly projects, including the ADAPT project and other administrative and research-related tasks. This position will include tasks related to the operation of the CSSCF, securing and developing research funding, managing research projects, and supporting scholarly work (e.g. literature reviews, manuscript development, data management) from the CSSCF and ADAPT project.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS:
The CSSCF is a cross-university research centre focused identifying and supporting the development of evidence-informed policies, programs, and services aimed at improving the lives of children, youth, and families from diverse social contexts through conducting research, mobilizing knowledge, training, and community partnerships. This position will report directly to the UBC-O CSSCF Director, Dr. Sarah Dow-Fleisner, and work with the research team and project partners, including those on the UBC-V campus. This position will be in person at the CSSCF office in the Landmark building, with limited opportunities for remote work.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures successful management of the research project:
- Manages the center budget and the research grants by participating in the budget development process, recommending allocation of funds, administering expenditures through the review and approval of invoices and receipts, and liaising with the research finance team in FHSD.
- Oversees the development and management of the research related to children and families
- Mentors and supports research assistants and volunteers on the research team.
- Oversees and coordinates all activities related to the research project and knowledge translation of the products of this research.
- Preparing, composing, editing and proofing written reports for the Director and/or team for publication or academic proposals, including literature reviews, policy analysis, and environmental scans
- Provides support to the Principal Investigator, the research team, and research assistants; provides leadership in all aspects of these research activities.
- Develops and coordinates strategic work plans, and establishes priorities and timelines for a multi-phase and method research project.
- Works collaboratively with the research team and partners to facilitate implementation of project to support meeting the objectives of the research project.
- Ensures that data is appropriately archived and that multiple data sets are appropriately configured to ensure they can be merged.
- Leads data collection activities, extracts and conducts preliminary analyses.
- Ensures ethical standards of research are followed, monitored and maintained.
- Oversees literature review processes performed by research assistants.
- Develops procedures to support research protocols.
- Monitors workflow and data collection to ensure high quality data collection, tracking and management.
- Organizes and leads orientation and training sessions for research assistants in relation to data collection, data management, data analysis, and preparation of reports.
- Supervises and responsible for all work completed by the research assistants.
- Ensures that project files are appropriately set up and maintained.
- Responds to inquiries from research participants related to on-going research.
- Leads, coordinates and actively participates in project team meetings.
- Designs and facilitates processes for communication and collaboration to support the research team, research assistants and study sites.
- Ensures timely notification of Principal Investigator and team of issues or problems.
- Assists with hiring of research assistants, writing job descriptions, posting position, screening applicants, participating in candidate selection, facilitating appointments, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Works collaboratively with the research team member on the UBC-O and UBC-V teams and with research and community partners
- Manages the CSSCF and ADAPT project websites and social media accounts, including developing knowledge translation materials for research outputs
- Organizes and develops grant applications for CSSCF and ADAPT projects
- Performs other duties related to supporting the research project as required.

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR:
The Director associated with the Centre will monitor the work of the research coordinator, who will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision. Errors or incorrect decisions could seriously compromise the integrity of the CSSCF and the work done within the Centre. Additionally, serious compromises would jeopardize future funding opportunities and potentially cause harm to community partners and research participants. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, tact and accuracy, and will have access to research related to child welfare, child maltreatment, maladaptive family functioning, and other sensitive topics.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The research coordinator position will work independently under the broad directives of the CSSCF Director and closely with the research team. It is imperative that the research coordinator work with minimal supervision and in close collaboration with the research team. The research coordinator will work independently in performing defined duties with from broad objectives and will alert the Director to any unusual situations and problems as they arise or are anticipated. Director will provide extensive training and ongoing consultation to support this position as needed.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
This position may check the accurate work of research assistants, students, and youth research assistants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of two years’ experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. social work, psychology, human development), with a preference for health-related or communications concentration, Master’s or advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred.
- Research methods and grant writing experience is an asset
- Experience in communications, web design, or graphic design is also an asset
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to health research.
- Computer and web/graphic design (Microsoft Office, WordPress, Canva, Adobe, Basecamp) skills at an advanced level preferred
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills - must have strong attention to detail, accuracy, and presentation of information; ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, to prioritize and organize effectively, and to meet established timelines without undue stress
- Effective oral and written communication skills, work will be mainly in English, but the ability to speak/write in a language other than English would be an asset
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail, and adapt to changing priorities to meet deadlines.
