Hiring Unit:

Department of Physics


Position Summary:

Lead software and algorithm research & development (team) for current and upcoming radio survey instruments:

  • Conceptualize and develop novel data analysis methods
  • Conceptualize novel observational modes for upcoming observatory
  • Participate in research and infrastructure funding acquisition
  • Take an active role in national and international collaborations
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students
  • Lead independent research within key research areas (e.g. Institute’s, CASCA 2020-2030 Long Range Plan)
  • Explore discovery space for fast radio bursts, pulsars, and other radio transients

Qualifications:

  • Explore and analyse survey data
  • Link radio observations to observations at other wavelengths
  • Coordinate professional staff
  • Publish research articles in reputable scientific journals
  • Present developments and results at national and international conferences
  • Can conduct research in astrophysics at an internationally recognised level (publishing in refereed journals)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the science and techniques of astronomy & astrophysics
  • Demonstrated ability to write well documented code for analysis of astrophysics data

Education/Experience:

  • PhD required
  • Graduate and post-doctoral experience in research in astrophysics
  • Experience leading research and technical projects to completion
  • Experience supervising students and other trainees

Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.

Hourly Salary: $38.76

Hours per Week: 40 (Full time)
