The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 9 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Precision Neurodevelopment Lab is seeking a Research Associate with advanced expertise in qualitative research to support and lead research activities focused on improving care for children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), particularly those presenting with behaviours of concern.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Qualitative Research Leadership:
- Lead design and implementation of qualitative research studies, including interview and focus group facilitation
- Guide graduate trainees in conducting interviews, coding, and interpreting data
- Apply and advise on a range of qualitative methodologies (e.g., thematic analysis, grounded theory, narrative analysis)
Data Management and Analysis:
- Conduct and oversee qualitative data coding and analysis using NVivo
- Ensure rigorous, ethical, and consistent data handling practices
- Support integration of qualitative and mixed-methods findings into broader lab projects
Manuscript and Grant Writing:
- Contribute to and lead sections of scientific manuscripts and grant applications
- Assist trainees in writing up qualitative research results for publication or presentation
Knowledge Translation and Dissemination:
- Translate complex qualitative findings into accessible formats for academic, policy, and public audiences
- Co-develop research briefs, presentations, and community reports
Partner Engagement and Policy Liaison:
- Serve as a point of contact for key external partners including philanthropic foundations and policy organizations
- Represent the lab's research priorities and findings in strategic communications with partners working in health, disability, and child development sectors
- Support relationship-building efforts to align research outputs with funder and policy priorities
Supervision and Mentorship:
- Provide day-to-day supervision and mentorship to students conducting qualitative research
- Support trainees' methodological skill development and writing
Research Administration:
- Prepare, submit, and manage ethics applications for qualitative studies
- Contribute to project management and planning activities
Qualifications / Requirements:
- PhD in health-related social science discipline with a focus on qualitative research
- Lived experience of caregiving for a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder is required
- Extensive experience in designing, conducting, and publishing qualitative studies
- Proficient in NVivo and skilled in a range of qualitative analytic frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor graduate students
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
