Job description

The Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) is a leading organization dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of public safety personnel (PSP). CIPSRT operates through two main divisions: the Knowledge Exchange Hub, which focuses on translating academic research into accessible resources for PSPs, and PSPNET, which offers internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy tailored for PSPs.

CIPSRT seeks an experienced researcher to spearhead knowledge translation initiatives for the Knowledge Exchange Hub. Reporting to the Executive Director, this pivotal role requires a PhD and extensive research experience to provide a holistic understanding of academic research processes and outputs, with demonstrated expertise in translating complex information for diverse audiences within the Public Safety Personnel (PSP) field. In an effort to ensure that research has a tangible impact on the lives of PSPs across Canada and internationally, this role will liaise with key strategic academic and NGO stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead knowledge translation and dissemination.
  2. Actively engage with external non-governmental partners to identify opportunities for collaboration, resource sharing, and knowledge exchange, with a view to advance CIPSRT’s mission and to expand the reach of its knowledge translation activities.
  3. Support the execution of a comprehensive, multi-year knowledge translation strategy for CIPSRT’s Knowledge Hub, aligned with strategic priorities and leveraging cutting-edge research in knowledge mobilization. This requires deep understanding of academic research processes and outputs, with expertise in translating complex information for diverse audiences.
  4. Lead and participate in collaborative research initiatives with other researchers and external partners. This includes utilizing shared data analysis to contribute to the broader body of knowledge in PSP Knowledge Hub.
  5. Engage in the continuous generation of new knowledge by conducting analysis, systematic reviews, and applying other advanced research methodologies. This will contribute to the development of new frameworks and models for knowledge mobilization in the field of PSP mental health.
  6. Oversee development and execution of knowledge translation plans, aligned with overall strategy and maximizing reach and impact. Involves managing internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, designers, and communication specialists.
  7. Evaluate effectiveness of knowledge translation activities and adapt strategies based on data and best practices. Requires expertise in research methodologies and data analysis, typical of a PhD-level incumbent.
  8. This position will ensure the maintenance of best practices in research and evaluation.
  9. Contribute to the overall strategic direction of CIPSRT, providing expert advice and insights on knowledge translation and mobilization. This necessitates a deep understanding of CIPSRT’s mission and strategic goals, along with the ability to think strategically and contribute to organizational decision-making.
  10. Stay abreast of the latest research and best practices in PSP mental health and knowledge mobilization.
  11. Oversee and contribute to the development and implement metrics to evaluate the impact of knowledge translation initiatives on PSP mental health and well-being.
  12. Engage with policymakers to advocate for the adoption of research-informed policies and practices that support PSP mental health. Create policy briefs and other advocacy materials to influence decision-making at various levels of government and industry.
  13. Serve on advisory committees and working groups to listen, learn and provide expert input on issues related to PSP mental health and knowledge translation.
  14. Act as the primary representative for CIPSRT in various forums, conferences, and meetings to promote its mission and research outcomes.
  15. Work collaboratively with Knowledge Translators to provide oversight ensuring the research utilized can be translated in tangible resources for PSPs.
  16. Systematically review and synthesize existing research to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities for new knowledge translation initiatives. This involves integrating findings from diverse studies to inform CIPSRT’s strategies and knowledge mobilization efforts.

Position Requirements:

  1. Educational Background: PhD in a relevant field such as public health, psychology, communications, or sociology, preferably with a specialization in Public Safety Personnel and applied research.
  2. Experience: Demonstrated success in developing and executing knowledge translation/mobilization strategies, with a deep understanding of the PSP mental health research landscape.
  3. Skills: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities; adept at engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders including researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.

This role is designed for a visionary leader eager to influence the field of public safety personnel mental health through strategic research and innovative knowledge mobilization.
