Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated R&D Laboratory Technician to join the Protech Group. The ideal candidate will assist the Health and safety coordinator in the elaboration and update of documentation related to regulatory affairs in the coatings industry. Besides conducting a variety of laboratory tests and analyses to support our Research and Development (R&D) efforts. This role will involve working with materials, preparing samples, performing quality control tests, and ensuring accurate reporting of results. A background in chemistry, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently are key to success in this position.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the elaboration and update of documentation related to Health and Safety regulations in the coatings industry.
  2. Assist with compliance tracking and regulatory follow-up (e.g. GHS, TSCA, REACH).
  3. Prepare Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  4. Conduct coating characterization tests.
  5. Participate in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  6. Receive, review, and record incoming materials for testing through a check-in process, ensuring they meet specified requirements.
  7. Perform a variety of analytical tests following established standards such as ASTM, ISO, OEM, AAMA, etc., ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  8. Prepare test samples, quality control specimens, reagents, and solutions; calibrate and maintain equipment required for testing processes.

Qualifications:

  1. DEC in Laboratory Techniques, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent. Or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  2. Minimum one year of experience in a similar position (an asset).
  3. Knowledge of chemical regulations (GHS, TSCA, REACH).
  4. Experience with ERP systems is an asset.
  5. Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Physical ability to perform testing and laboratory tasks, including lifting and handling materials.
  8. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex procedures accurately.
  9. Positive attitude and excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  10. Previous experience in a testing laboratory is considered an asset but not required.
