The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change (response), implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through (and) wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (CVPD) is an interdisciplinary centre that is hosted by the DLSPH, with members from across several faculties at the University of Toronto. The CVPD’s mission is to increase health and to improve confidence in vaccines and immunization programs through the provision of evidence-based information aimed at communities, health care providers, schools, decision-makers, the general public, and other stakeholders.

As the Research Analyst (Epidemiologist), you will be responsible for applying analytic research expertise to a number of projects. In particular, these include a survey of high-risk individuals about their attitudes and practices related to highly pathogenic avian influenza, as well as studies evaluating measles immunity. You will develop study instruments and conduct statistical analyses according to defined plans. You will interpret data, prepare tables and work collaboratively with project teams to assist in preparing reports, manuscripts and presentations. Your familiarity with laboratory and epidemiological data, systematic review processes, solid communication and organizational skills will be crucial to your success in this role.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Analyzing and writing program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data; Providing detailed information on data analysis findings to stakeholders and formatting research results to be presentable and easily comprehensible.
  2. Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected; Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes.
  3. Editing content for grant applications and drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval.
  4. Fostering positive relationships with project partners, and ensuring that research practices adhere to policies and procedures.
  5. Delivering presentations at conferences on research findings.
  6. Tracking and monitoring research activities and informing stakeholders of project progress.
  7. Maintaining project records and checking that projects adhere to ethical and privacy requirements.
  8. Handling sensitive and/or confidential information.


Essential Qualifications:
  1. Master's Degree in epidemiology, public health, or related discipline or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience.
  3. Broad knowledge about vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases.
  4. Depth of knowledge about measles epidemiology and vaccination.
  5. Depth of knowledge about highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
  6. Depth of knowledge about measles vaccination and immunity.
  7. Previous experience conducting a systematic review.
  8. Demonstrated experience conducting statistical analysis (i.e. SAS, Stata or R).
  9. Experience with multiple types of statistical analysis, including descriptive analysis.
  10. Experience in analyzing survey data, including coding and analysis of open-ended questions.
  11. Demonstrated experience with data management and resolving data issues.
  12. High proficiency with MS Office Suite such as Word, PowerPoint, and other software packages and programming languages currently used to collect, analyze and report data.
  13. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously.
  14. Strong communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
  15. Excellent organizational skills, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to meet conflicting priorities and balance multiple projects.
  16. Demonstrates initiative and possesses a strong commitment to research work.
  17. Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
  18. Strong commitment to confidentiality and adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
