Salary: $76,071.18 – $86,658.48
Status: Temporary, Full-Time (24 months)
Location: Vancouver, Coast and Mountains region (Hybrid)

Work Option: Hybrid or Remote

Flexible work options are available, subject to an approved telework agreement; Hybrid work is available for employees residing within the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains (VCM) region and enables employees to telework from their home up to 3 days a week with in office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Remote work is available for employees residing outside of the VCM region in one of the approved remote locations in BC listed above. Employees working remotely will have the opportunity to visit the Destination BC office once a quarter.

The initial salary for this position will start at the beginning of the listed salary range with the opportunity to advance up the pay grid in annual increments. An eligibility list may be established.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Manager, Research Insights, the Research Analyst is a key member of the Research & Analytics team. The Research Analyst is responsible for handling client requests related to business intelligence, offering analysis and recommendations, and/or conducting research projects to address these needs. This role will involve interpreting tourism industry statistics relevant to various Destination BC programs to support their business goals. The Research Analyst will also be responsible for effectively communicating research findings across different platforms, including internal and external presentations, working groups and committees.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Analyzing, using appropriate statistical techniques, large databases and producing descriptive and analytical reports for senior management, the tourism industry, media, and the public on tourism trends, economic issues and marketing performance.
• Works as part of internal and external cross-functional teams to understand business problems and how research can be applied to address those problems.
• Fulfilling frequent research information requests from industry, media, consultants, other government agencies, Destination BC management and staff, and the general public.
• Participating in major research projects, through research project design, interviewer training, questionnaire/survey design, project management, and analysis of databases and other activities, with the guidance of senior staff.
• Preparing, and managing the production of widely circulated Destination BC research publications such as the Value of Tourism, Tourism Indicators, and Regional/Market/Sector Profiles.
• Preparing briefing notes and presentations for senior management, and making presentations at Board meetings and meetings of senior management, as required.
• Preparing and leading presentations and workshops at industry and association meetings and conferences.
• Maintaining the confidentiality of research project results, ensuring confidentiality and security of databases containing sensitive business specific data and information in compliance with privacy laws and government, corporate and industry standards.
• Negotiating and managing research contracts for research projects valued up to $50,000.
• Other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Post-secondary degree in research, analytics, statistics, business administration, or other quantitative discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in market research and / or primary consumer research and analysis, trend analysis and interpretation.
• Demonstrated experience in development of research plans, research project design, statistical analysis and the manipulation and determining the reliability of large and complex databases.
• Demonstrated experience in gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information from diverse sources.
• Demonstrated experience in the leading and preparation of research reports and briefing materials.
• Demonstrated experience in computer applications including spreadsheets (e.g. MS Excel), presentation (e.g. MS PowerPoint), and word‐processing packages (e.g. MS Word), databases (e.g. MS Access), and statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS).
• Well-developed business partner relations, negotiation, communications and project management skills.
• Experience in the Tourism industry is an asset.
• Experience with Business Intelligence Tools is an asset.
