The Opportunity
The Occupational Health and Safety Branch is seeking a results-driven professional who will use their notable research and project management skills to lead, design, and manage a variety of Branch initiatives. The candidate of choice will be able to balance the demands of multiple stakeholders within a regulatory environment, demonstrating notable self-management capabilities. This is a permanent position.
As the Research Analyst you will:
- Compile, correlate, and interpret research encompassing jurisdictional scans, evaluations, national standards, industry practices, and OHS trends, issues, and emerging needs;
- Lead special projects and initiatives in response to requests from senior management and Ministry stakeholders;
- Establish and maintain branch policies, procedures, and related materials;
- Design and develop training course content as needed for the Branch;
- Prepare a variety of written materials such as reports, briefing notes, guides, and learning resources;
- Assist with freedom of information requests.
You will have extensive knowledge and understanding of:
- Government structures, processes, responsibilities, and operations;
- Project management methods, principles, and processes;
- The navigation and interpretation of legislation, predominantly related to Occupational Health and Safety;
- Software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint; any experience with Articulate Storyline (or similar software) would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will have the ability to:
- Search for and assess complex data/information to be used in the development of materials such as reports, policies, training resources, and learning materials;
- Creatively plan and conduct effective research with the ability to draw appropriate conclusions from the investigation results;
- Identify and assess relevant data, trends, and opportunities, consider a variety of options, then recommend and implement an appropriate course of action;
- Develop interactive policy-based learning content using rapid development authoring tools;
- Explain complex legislation, policies, and processes in both a verbal and written manner, appropriate to the intended audience;
- Work cohesively as a team member with colleagues, agencies, and stakeholders in order to meet objectives in a timely manner;
- Swiftly grasp new concepts, demonstrate leadership, take initiative, and work independently.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required is obtained through either a Masters or Undergraduate degree in Public Policy combined with at least one year of relevant work experience. Specific knowledge of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2020 would be considered an asset.
