WSP Canada Inc. is currently seeking a Remote Sensing Specialist to work in our Modelling & Analysis Team, a small group of consulting professionals and practitioners working in various locations throughout Canada. The team follows a hybrid approach to work location: the successful candidate may be located anywhere in Canada, and may work primarily remotely, but will spend an agreed upon number of days each week in one or more WSP offices.

What you will do:
The successful candidate will enjoy working on interdisciplinary and pan-geographical projects, sometimes directly for external clients, often for other WSP offices and teams, and frequently with collaborators. You might find yourself:
Working on land cover classification using different types of remote sensing datasets (e.g., high resolution satellite images, UAV images, and LiDAR data).
Performing visual interpretation of aerial imagery.
Developing machine learning algorithms in commonly used GIS and remote sensing software packages.
Building Python code for different remote sensing applications.
Utilizing ArcGIS for various image processing tasks.
Collaborating on met-ocean projects to develop methods for deriving oceanographic and meteorological parameters from different satellite observations.
Contributing to and/or preparing effective proposals and reports.
Performing technical reviews of work done by other remote sensing specialists on the team.
Managing projects being performed by the Remote Sensing Team, including coordinating the elements of a project, aiming for timely completion within budget and with high standards.
Seeking and identifying business opportunities to maintain and grow the Remote Sensing Business.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in remote sensing or similar field and will have demonstrated experience in the application of remote sensing applications in an operational (commercial) and/or academic setting. They will be a team-oriented self-motivator, with a commitment to collaboration and a willingness to work across disciplines.
Master or PhD degree in Remote Sensing or similar field.
Strong background using machine learning methods for various remote sensing applications.
Strong programming skills, especially with Python.
Proficient in using remote sensing and GIS software packages.
Experience with land cover classification using object-based methods.
Strong written and oral communication (English) skills.
Demonstrated experience in project management and business development.
Experience with Google Earth Engine and cloud computing methods for big geo data processing tasks will be considered an asset.
