Registered Practical Nurse (Union Position)

The Salvation Army’s Meighen Health Centre (MHC) is a long-term care and assisted living facility located in Toronto, within walking distance of the Davisville subway station and with free on-site parking. Working in long-term care allows you to connect with and care for those under your charge and to get to know them over time. You are an integral, positive, and sustaining influence in their daily life and get to see and know the whole person, not just their diagnosis.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Must possess current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Experience in rehabilitation or long-term care nursing.
• Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite, internet use and computerized documentation.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

• Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff in a positive manner.
• Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomes.
• Establish and sustain care in a manner that is resident-centred and fosters evidence-based best practice.
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
