Financial Support for Moving Expenses is available for this position.

In accordance with the established Vision and Values of the organization, the Clinical Mentor role functions as an experienced clinical mentor, resource, and champion in the delivery of excellent client care to nurses and other team members. Working in conjunction with nurse educators, provides rapid elbow-to-elbow clinical mentorship and practice support for nursing staff. Utilizes experience and clinical skills to function as a clinical resource to formally advise other nursing staff in nursing practice, provides clinical instruction and supports staff training and development. Takes on a leadership role in performing functions such as mentoring staff to support skills development, and supporting clinical practice initiatives.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Evenings, 07:00 to 18:00, 12:00 to 23:00 (Rotating)

The Rotary Manor Complex consists of two buildings; the main area and the three-story tower are joined by a glassed walkway. All areas are bright with lots of natural sunlight and pleasant décor. 115 publicly subsidized beds, two private rooms for respite care, and two private rooms for community palliative needs. We have an active recreation department with various activities planned during the day, as well as groups who come in, both in the daytime and during the evening, for example, school children for the Grand Buddy program, singers and musicians, church groups etc. The Adult Day Away Program integrates some of their activities with the facility recreation program.

Dawson Creek: Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. The city is also known as the Mile Zero City, as it marks the start of the Alaska Highway, a 2,400 km long highway connecting Alaska and the Yukon to Western Canada and the United States. Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500. It provides primary service to a population of approximately 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region of 60,000. There are eleven elementary schools, one middle school, and one secondary school. The Northern Lights College provides adult education. Qualifications

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years of relevant nursing experience in Long Term or Primary Care including experience mentoring nursing staff as well as leadership training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle may be required.

  • Demonstrated ability to guide and/or deal with others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills in the approach to patient/client/resident care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and support staff through transition.
  • Demonstrated skill in the application of techniques appropriate to the assessment and treatment of designated client population utilizing best available evidence informed practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a supportive, creative learning environment and engage in continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computerized client/patient care information system as well as applicable word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.

  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
