Your Opportunity:

The RAH ICU is a 29-bed unit characterized by high acuity and high occupancy. The ICU is funded for 29 beds and cares for critically ill patients from the medicine, surgery (including the regionalized thoracic surgery program), obstetrics, gynecologic, neurosurgical, and trauma programs. The unit provides evidence-based services within an inter-disciplinary team model. Specialized services include continuous and intermittent renal replacement for acute and chronic renal failure, rhabdomyolysis, and sepsis; therapeutic plasma exchange for hematological and auto-immune disorders; and critical care support for the regional bariatric program. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the patients, and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. Nursing care will be administered safely and effectively, according to hospital policies and nursing care standards.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home//learning-and-development/learning-modules/) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with 1 year of adult critical care experience is required. Candidates without previous Adult ICU experience or certification may apply and may be considered for the Orientation Program (OPACCA). OPACCA is a program consisting of theory and clinical orientation. Knowledge consolidation and staged skill development over the following 10-12 months (approx.1600 hours) is required to complete training in this specialized area. Demonstration of excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, communication, organizational and patient care skills is necessary for successful completion of the Clinical Assessment and to continue employment with the Critical Care Program. Alberta Health Services reserves the ability to hire individuals with less experience or education. Candidates must show the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance to fill knowledge gaps and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. A commitment to providing quality patient and family centered care in a team environment must be demonstrated. Charge Nurse duties may be required following successful orientation to the role. Recent experience within an acute care environment, either as a student or an RN, is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in ICU, observation room, trauma, with ventilators and as an acute care RN is preferred. Training and experience with: Epidurals, ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, hemodialysis and/or CRRT, rhythm analysis, Pacemakers, Cardiac Arrest Management, and hemodynamic monitoring. Experience working with diverse communities or groups (i.e. ethno-cultural, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, etc.).
