Regional Registered Nurse II/Nurse Practitioner
(Rural and Remote Health)
Permanent Full Time
Location: Black Tickle, NL
(PCN: 55550POS)

The purpose of this position is to provide primary care (preventative, health promotion, supportive, rehabilitative, and curative) and emergency services to clients. The position offers an excellent opportunity to advance nursing knowledge and decision-making skills while managing a generalized primary health care program by working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. The Nurse Practitioner or Regional Nurse role includes components of clinical practice, education, consultation, and research and preceptorship. The Regional Registered Nurse II or Nurse Practitioner reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. Registered Nurse:
    • Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Nursing program is required;
    • Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
    • Completion of an Outpost Nursing Program or other education/certification (e.g health assessment course) is an asset;
    • 2 years' experience as an Acute Care nurse with preference for Emergency Care, ICU experience, regional or outpost nursing within the past five years;
    • Current certification in BCLS and/or First Aid;
    • ACLS, TNCC, PALS, NRP and medevac course;
    • Successful completion of the Breastfeeding Essentials Course or willing to complete during orientation;
    • A Class V Driver's license;
    • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Good Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;
  2. Nurse Practitioner:
    • Graduation from an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner education program is required;
    • Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
    • Current certification in BCLS or First Aid;
    • ACLS, TNCC, PALS, NRP and medevac course;
    • Successful completion of the Breastfeeding Essentials Course or willing to complete during orientation;
    • A Class V Driver's license;

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

  1. Arranging and conducting clinics for primary care purposes including assessing, diagnosing, and prescribing in accordance with professional, provincial, and organizational standards, policies, and clinical practice guidelines;
  2. Assesses clients' needs leading to a continuum of appropriate services in Public Health & Home/Community Care, including prenatal, healthy beginnings/Long Term Care, child health, preschool, school health programs, wellness promotion, parenting, breastfeeding, travel and lifestyle clinics, routine immunization clinics, communicable disease surveillance, curative interventions, end of life care, rehabilitation, long term care support, support of family caregiver;
  3. Coordinating treatment plans based on ongoing assessments, client and family response and outcomes, consulting with physician or nurse practitioner if required care is outside of provider's scope of practice and competencies;
  4. Coordinating quarterly client case management meetings with all health care providers to develop care plan for patients with complex needs;
  5. Dispenses medications in accordance with professional, provincial and organizational standards, policies and clinical practice guidelines;
  6. Coordinating medical follow-up (e.g. referrals as appropriate; facilitating transition from hospital to community; and acting as a liaison between the client and various health care providers);
  7. Consults with the assigned physician and reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager for administrative/management issues;
  8. Ensuring quality assurance standards are maintained;
  9. Other duties as assigned (e.g. emergency on-call, documentation of nursing workload measurement system);
  10. Participates in professional development and lifelong learning;
  11. Enter nursing workloads;
  12. Directs all staff by delegating duties and responsibilities. Organizing work schedules including approval of leave;
  13. Oversees month reports including: financial, community referrals statistics, daily workload report and recommends action as necessary;
  14. Completes annual performance reviews;
  15. Will be required to work alone;
  16. Other related duties as required;

Salary:
This is a RNUNL/Non Union-Non Management (NUNM) Position;
Nurse Practitioner - NP-35, $50.28 to $62.40 per hour; Regional Registered Nurse II - NS-34, $47.27 to $58.62 per hour depending on experience credits, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance. Other benefits in accordance with the Paid Leave Program;

Hours of Work:
75 Hours Bi-weekly; Variable shifts; on call is required.
